As the Amazing Bassist Matthew Garrison once said "Tom Jenkinson AKA Squarepusher is where Jazz should be going".
This album is ONE MAN ONE BASS and it is all Live as the other review has said if you're after the Squarepusher as you know it and love it then this may not be for you. But saying that this is an amazing album showing his skill as a player and composer his music is composed like a epic film score taking you through all different moods and styles and I am looking forward to any other bass only albums as I think the Future of bass is in Mr Jenkinsons hands.

I advise that you ignore Mike Diver's BBC review above - no offence to the kid, but...

"the material deserves a certain level of cleanliness, the kind common with Warp electronica"

Cleanliness? Hmm you ever heard Phlange Phace? Or 90101-5l-l?

So, yes. Solo Electric Bass. It's a lot of fun - well worth a listen. If it's not up to BBC reviewer ha ha cleanliness standerds, it's fine by me.

Not the offbeam collector curiosity it's been characterised as. No way - there is just as much to interest the average Sqrpshr/Wrp fan here as on any other release.

Highly recommended.

Right, I'm a fan of Squarepusher. I like his Electro etc. I am also a fan of stuff like Portico Quartet. This is a great album. Ok it features no percussion, but SP's use of slap bass and notes create a feeling of equal pace.

It really is beautiful music. Emotive and composed. There are great moments of energy and pace followed by sentimental Lacrimosa's.

I'd recommend it to people who love music, not just raving!

If you enjoy a solo bass show then its a wicked album. If you like squarepushers rolling beats and stonking tunes then avoid.
