The Shads have always been fine judges of the best way to arrange their material for a live show. They know the tunes so well that they're guaranteed to preserve all the licks that defined each piece on the original recording and embellish the rest to keep it sounding fresh. The guitar break on 'Lady of the Morning' has been brought up to date and Hank really goes to town with the flamenco twiddles on 'Guitar Tango'.
Sound quality is uniformly excellent, although the acoustic guitars are presented a little synthetically. The set list is faultless, spicing up the obligatory hits with excursions into the Marvin, Welch & Farrar repertoire and more than a few reminiscences of the days backing Cliff. Essential listening.

Just recieved my copies of the DVD & C.D. & played them both. Great value 42 tracks, with the Shads on great form. They must have played all the tracks a million times before but they showed themselves to be still masters of their craft. The only track they could have edited out of the C.D. is Little B, A Brian Bennett drum solo, lasting several mins, perhaps the rest of the lads nipped to the bar for a Quick pint!. Highly recommend both C.D. and DVD.

Catch The Shadows live on their 2004 comeback tour with a fabulous revival of golden greats from the '60s. The Final Tour marks the first American release of new material by The Shadows since 1963! God bless Eagle for this essential double CD and DVD set from Hank, Bruce and Brian...

Highly recommended CD and DVD ... I've been a fan for 40 years and look forward to their concert next May in Paris ...!The only small criticism I would make concerns those hits where the Shads do not stick to the originals and take some liberty....the best (or worse) example is their interpretation of Shadoogie and The Rise & Fall of Flingel Bunt... well, that's my opinion !I like the original versions so much because they sound harder and ... rougher ! Otherwise, most of all the other "classic hits" are just like the original and some even better !

More's the pity - that it was the final tour, that is. Having said that, the quality of musicianship is excellent throughout, the performances utterly professional, as Shadows' fans would expect. I'm not an absolute expert on the Shads., but there was all the material here that I think that I could reasonably have asked for, and the disc complements the DVD of their performance beautifully (I bought that first, then, prompted by a mate of mine who is also a long time Shadows fan, bought us both copies of the audio CD. We had watched the DVD with absolute delight all the way through...). The boys are now on my iPod, too, accompanying me on my daily travels. Excellent, in all respects: it's good to have them with me. I just wish that I could see them live, again. Still, never say never...

There are very few absolutely "world-class" lead guitarists who can aspire to the height Hank Marvin reached. He plays the guitar like its an extension of his body - and even playing live gigs, the Shadows sound easily as good as they do in the studio recording an album.
For me, the Shadows have a unique sound that is timeless and all of their big hits from the late 50's - through to the early 80's when Hank joined up with Mark Knopfler - are on this double-album.
The Final Tour 2CD + DVD collection was recorded live in Cardiff and the Shads sound every bit as good as they did through the previous five decades!
This is THE essential double album for anyone who enjoys guitar instrumentals, plus covers of many of Cliff's big hits.
