You know every episode backwards. Try something inspired (see below).
Truth be told, no 'review' is necessary for Friends because EVERYONE has seen it. Still, I'm a bit bored so I'm bound to ask the question...
Customers in the UK: given that Friends is repeated in chronological order, every episode, on a permanent loop on daytime and evening TV, WHY are you buying it on DVD?
I have owned the single DVDs for each series and collected as I went but decided to splash out on this 15th Anniversary Box Set. I received it yesterday and can honestly say it is money well spent. Not only does it come in a lovely presentation box but there are bundles of extras.
1) All episodes are the extended US versions which means some people who have the single DVD versions won't have this.
2) Each Series box contains 4 single sided DVDs which is a major plus. Previously the series was put on double sided DVDs and the labelling wasn't very clear. Now you get 4 discs per series.
3) In addition to the episodes for each series you get extras on every single disc. I won't describe each one as they are listed on the Amazon product page. However, die hard Friends fans will be pleased to see that you get some great extras such as my favourites which are:-
Gag Reels from series 1-4 and 6-10 (not sure what happened to series 5)
Interactive Trivia game
An hour long behind the scenes documentary
The Friends stars thoughts as the final series comes to a close.
4) You also receive a nice Episode guide book. The book details each episode with a description and pictures. You also get an additional few pages at the back detailing some of the more famous props.
5) The DVDS come with Dutch and English subtitles.
6) They are shown in 16:9 Widescreen format (so now black lines appear down the sides of the screen)
My overall opinion is that this box set is well priced and an absolute must have. The box set isn't too bulky so fits nicely in with other DVDs and also looks particularly nice in its presentation box.
If you are a fan then order yourself one today....you won't regret it!

I previously had a "red box" edition of Friends, but decided to replace the well worn-out discs with this new boxset - and surprisingly it is a HUGE improvement!
1) (the most important) Full versions of all episodes - the pilot seems to be the same (probably it wasn't cut for older boxsets), but starting from the episode #2 you will get at least 2-3 minutes of new material for every episode (and more than 5-6 minutes on some episodes in later seasons!)
It is amazing how many cuts my older boxset had - now I can see a dialogue between two characters and apparently they could cut out 2-3 phrases in the middle (for example the scene of Chandler breaking up with Janice for the first time lost several very funny bits). The final effect that the extended versions in the new boxset flow much better and there are no strange cuts anymore.
2) Commentaries on many episodes from the show creators.
3) Gag reels (except for season 5).
4) Single side discs with 6-7 episodes on each! And in normal plastic boxes, not in paper wrap.
5) Improved navigation - all discs and disc boxes have lists of episodes printed on them (it is an essential feature but my old boxset did not have that!).
6) Episodes split into 10 individual boxes, one per season ("red box" boxset unhelpfully split them into 6 paper packs, one per character).
In the end, I love this edition of "Friends". Good work WB!

I have the black box edition of this. I was impressed by that but unimpressed by the special features. I bought this for the additional features and am going to sell the Black box edition.
This edition of the Friends Box Set is brilliant. It's the best way of watching Friends. The extra features are brilliant for Friendsaholics.
This isn't much of a review. More me saying that this IS the best Friends box set out there. The Seasons are are inn better cases, single side disks, smaller all season box. In my opinion better box art. Full episodes the ones aired in America. Unseen parts in UK.
If you don't have the 10 season box set and are thinking of getting it. This is the best of the three money will buy you.

I currently own the other version of this boxset (Black Box), however the one problem with it is they have double-sided discs! But hang on...I have been in contact with Warner Home Video UK, who are going to produce this boxset, the good news is...they discs will be single sided!!! This is good for me anyway!
So, instead of buying the black box version, wait! It is worth the wait just for the single-sided discs! The double-sided discs get scratched and you can't tell which episodes are on which side without playing them!
This has to be the perfect FRIENDS boxset ever!

Ok, so another box set and it's all been said and done before. But there is no harm in that when the content is as timelessly funny and classy as Friends. And this is a much better box set than #2 (the red boxed one...). Finally some good extra content (although this is not essential viewing IMO), and a nice booklet. Nice transfer quality too: it's a breath of fresh air if as watcher of the show on E4 you suffer from it's sometimes poor digital signal quality.
I love Friends. I've watched each episode soooo many times! And that's a sign of a TV shows greatness in my opinion - if you can watch it over and over. Friends are just that - friends. Silly, I know. But that's how you feel having watched them grow old and mature as people (like we all do). I've grown older with them and as a 90's twenty something it was my era (I guess that makes me biased).
In truth series 1 is showing it's age, but the last few still seem very modern and fresh to my eyes. References to anything that may date the show have been kept to a minimum, and even the clothes they wear are still fairly contemporary.
I wouldn't buy this if I already had one of the others, but I didn't as I've watched them on E4. But this aniversary one was too good to miss out on.
Great show, great item.
** Oh, and PLEASE don't make a film of Friends guys. Leave it's historical greatness alone! You can easily ruin a TV series completeness by making 'one for old times sake' - Remember Only Fools & Horses comeback anyone?..... Leave it alone Hollywood! It's just perfect as it ended.

You know it all from the other reviews. The extended episodes are here, with all the extras that the other boxset lacked, glad I waited that extra couple of months to buy this boxset instead of the old double-sided disc version. It also comes with nice little booklet which summerises each episode, a rarity in many boxsets. If you liked 30 Rock, Frasier or Everybody Loves Raymond, treat yourself to this bloomin' brilliant boxset!

Ok so if your a fan of Friends you have probably either watched the show loads and know the episodes well enough to quote the gags,or have videos and DVDs of complete seasons that you have watched over and over...so you see this set and think..why should I buy them again? The answer is you SHOULD! I have just watched the first 4 episodes and everyone so far has extended scenes,new gags and in the case of the pilot episode,commentaries by the shows creators that take you inside the making of the show.The sound has been remixed into 5.1 so this is the best the show has sounded! You get a fantastic 60 page episode guide,gag reels from all 10 seasons,and lots and lots of documentaries and featurettes and further commentaries as you progress through the show.The fun part for me is watching the episodes and spotting the new material as I am one of those fans who knows these episodes so well that discovering an additional scene like in ep 3 where Chandler teaches Joey how to look cool and do tricks with cigerettes,or in ep4 where the girls discuss the guys and we cut to the hospital to see the guys completly acting the opposite to how they had been described by the girls is as much fun as when you first saw them years ago! So...do you upgrade?? Absoulty yes! Your missing out if you don't and you will treasure this boxset for ever! Enjoy

I received my boxset yesterday and it is absolutely fantastic! I couldn't have wished for anything better!!
Each season comes in an individual plastic DVD case with 4 SINGLE SIDED(!! =D) DVDs.
Each season box has a photo on the front cover and an episode list on the inside which also lists the extras and marks the episodes with audio commentary.
All of the episodes have extra scenes just like America have had for years. About time we recieved them to
It comes with a nice little episode guide with about 60 pages. Each page is dedicated to 1 disc and has a short summary of the episodes and the extras. It contains quite a few photos relating the disc and also has some photos of props at the back.
The box is very well made and fits very nicely on my shelf.
All in all this has to be the best boxset i've ever bought. We Friends fans have waited a very long time for this, but it was defintaely worth it! Anybody who already owns the individual season sets and aren't sure whether this is worth buying then trust me, it is.

I have to confess I abandoned FRIENDS for a while, as I succumbed to Sex & THE CITY. I thought SEX was more adult, and it is, BUT...... taking another look at episodes of FRIENDS, I am surprised by how truthful it is in dealing with sex, pregnancy, loneliness, parents, problems, all in a very witty, light, but adult manner.
FRIENDS is better than a tranquilizer. For 25 minutes, one enters a world in which everyone is attractive (well almost everyone!) and everyone is witty, and leaves you with a smile on your face. It gets dangerously near sentimental, at times, but never quite succumbs.
Thank God for Phoebe, Joey, Rachel, Ross, Chandler and (I guess) Monica.
They have kept me sane. They realy ARE my FRIENDS,
I have plenty of real friends, too, so if this sounds sad, I don't care.
I recommend you all to watch a FRIENDS episode each night, before retiring to bed, or even IN bed!
