Half the price of the more endowed sibling Z980 or 1/3 of the price for the breathtaking Canon Powershot G11, you get an extremely decent camera for the average user. Most of the features that have been crippled or stripped down in order to support an aggressive price represent functionality that you can live without.Very efficient auto-focus in low light and also at maximum zoom. Indoor pictures are flat in terms of colour tones (I also have a Sony DSC-V1 camera to benchmark against), but increasing saturation via digital post-processing renders a vivid and convincing image. Green areas are very noisy at low light, which is typical for any cost effective compact camera, same as purple fringing at tele-foto. Besides that, outdoor pictures are fabulous. Worth every penny.

I haven't bought a new camera in 4 years. My wife and I looked for ages and nearly bought the panasonic. We are so pleased we bought this one. We've taken more great photo's in the last 2 weeks than I've taken for a long time. The best feature is the 0.3 sec button press to photo being taken. Ideal for the shots of the kids you always miss. All the other features are great - the auto setting is awesome, the screen is crystal clear and the zoom means you look for shots you would never normally consider. A great buy. My friend has the panasonic and he prefers ours :)

I found this camera slightly cheaper than it is here, and bought it because I knew it had aperture and shutter overides which I am surprised none of the other reviewers have mentioned.OK, there's only three aperture settings, but I know of more expensive cameras where there are only two. Another reviewer has used the word 'fabulous' about this camera's image quality, and I totally agree. I haven't had a problem with the saturation, as there are alternative settings. The main downside for me - which is why I've knocked a star off - is that the menu settings are not very intuitive, and the instruction manual has to be downloaded from Kodak's website, and isn't much use anyway.

I have this camera for a week now and I am so satisfied with the results. Being a Kodak user for a long time, I decided to stick to the brand and not change it for my new purchase of a digital camera. I think I was not disappointed. The Z950 is great by all standards. The picture quality is fabulous indoors and outdoors. The giant 10x optical zoom is makes taking photos very interesting. The manuals are very easy to use. The samrt mode is an added bonus for novice users like me. Overall, it really feels that using a bridge camera while you pay the price of a compact one...

I had the previous model of this camera, which after 6 months had to be sent to Kodak for repair when the lense failed, failing to retract back and the camera not powering up. I then broke it dropping it on holiday, another 6 months later and as warranty was up decided the first lense fail was probably a one off problem and bought the new version - the z950. I bought it because it was high mega pixels and high optical zoom, both of which meant I could get good clear shots, with this camera. Only owned it for 4 months and the lense failed, again failing to retract, meaning the camera will not remain powered on. I was taking a photo as normal and pressed the shutter release button. The camera screen went black, the lense remained out. I assumed my battery, which had been low, had gone flat and plugged it into charge. It made no difference. Camera would power up for a second then go back off, with the lense still out. I used the on-line chat on Kodaks site, as I did last time, but as last time, knew it would be of no help - only telling me to take battery out, wipe connections, plug into computer etc. All of which I had tried. Posted it away to Kodak who have sent an identicle replacement. See if this one lasts......

If you want the option to have a bit more creative control over your photography but don't wish to be burdened with a camera the size of a house brick, this camera seems to be just the job. It's bulkier than your average point and shoot, but fits in a jacket pocket quite easily. I find the extra bulk easier to handle and operate than slimline cameras, and it's solidly built with a good feel to the rubberised grip. The camera is easy to use with intuitive display menus displayed on the bright 3"LCD. I can navigate my way quickly through the menus to optimise capture settings for the lighting conditions, which isn't the case with all cameras where an instruction booklet is required for reference. The Kodak 'Smart' setting will do an excellent job anyway if you want to point and shoot, and have found that I have to do a lot less post capture editing to get good results than I have had to do with a Samsung Camera. In particular there is excellent capture of detail within darker areas of the picture, such as in backlit scenes and night time portraits. Colour balance is good, possibly a bit on the vivid side, but personally I prefer this to dull muted tones.Kodak cameras don't appear to be considered as serious contenders in the UK, and at the Kodak RRP I can see that they would be up against stiff competition, but as this camera (along with many other Kodaks) can be had for at substantial discounts, this makes this camera an excellent buy at £126. A Quality camera giving good results, I do not hesitate in recommending this camera to anyone.

I have had my z950 for 8 months now i like it very much ,theres nothing to touch it in its price range , manual focus that works ,full maual controls , 16 second exposure for night work and does it do a superb night shot , you bet your life it does.On the hole there better cameras out there for picture quality , but there twice the price with half the control,s the kodak has all you need without ,all the rubbish like pet detect and the like ,grate shots grate camera its a point and shoot and an advanced camera that fits in your pocket 10x optical zoom to get you close .dont belive me look on photography blog and look at the sample pics ,and compair to others the kodak punches well above its price tag ,and been faultless in over 8000 photos and hours of hd video .

It's a really good camera for the ameteur photograher, it has many options that you can play with and make really good and fun shots, it has a really nice quality and excelente zoom. Obviously if you want professional shots probably you won't be satisfied by this camera, because it's not a professional perse.I consider it a good purcharse for myself that i want to take good pics on my trips but not for publishing in a book or something. I give 4 stars because i've used professional cameras in the past

junk accessories, good images,
This review is from: Kodak EasyShare Z950 Digital Camera - Black (12MP, 10x Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD (Electronics)
The included accessories are junk. What the hell should be charged with a loader USB cable which doesn't charge the battery really - perhaps it charges only 10 % of the full capacity and then finishes. First thing I had to do to buy a charger. Battery isn't compatible - I had got another one of the same voltage, size and capacity, but it didn't fit. Really great! Also my other Mini USB cables don't fit, because the plug of Kodak is different. Linux Ubuntu cannot read the memory card because it's only with w. - PSP USB camera - and you must download the proprietary programs to make the memory card working if you connect the camera to your PC. I used the cardreader as last tool...Image quality isn't bad, but there are some issues on bright sunlight - overexposure. Colours in pictures taken with flash in auto mode aren't really true - f.e. blue on the picture is brighter than in reality. Picture processing after 2-3 pictures needs a lot of patience as it becomes very very slow...you should have steady nerves to like this camera. |
