Whatever you do don't let this album pass you by.

I'm prepared to beg to ensure that
you take the chance to hear it !

Simone White's new recording 'Yakiimo'
is a precious little wonder.

12 songs. A fragile, melancholy, almost hollow, voice.
Arrangements so stripped down and delicately balanced
that they might almost collapse inward on themselves.

These haunting melodies, stories and reflections
have the power to touch both heart and mind.

It seems almost ignoble to deconstruct such a perfectly defined whole.

A brief mention, then, of just a few of the standout tracks.

The lilting country air of 'Baby Lie Down With Me' is
delightful. Voice and fiddle work together like a dream.
The abrupt and inconclusive ending leaves a question mark
hanging enigmatically in the air.

Title track 'Yakiimo' is as haunting as anything written by
the inestimable Mr Hegarty. A half-seen ghost of a song.

'A Girl You Never Met' is a heart-wrending depiction
of love and loss and pain. Raw, honest and brave.

'Let The Cold Wind Blow' is a plaintive blues song
performed with breathy, idiosyncratic conviction.

The little composition 'Psalms' brings this very
special album to a whimsically perfect close.

There is nothing not to love here.
A small new world consumately conceived
and ravishing in its stark simplicity.

Essential.

I couldn't wait for this next album after her first I am the man. This time she has more mellow tones but still music from her life. Much like Suzanne Vega with a more ducet voice. Baby lie down with me just flows so wonderfully and a girl you never met is darkly sad. She just keeps getting better, I'll love it!
