I initially thought this item was useless! it got no warmer than the temperature you would heat a baby bottle ready to feed, also the diameter of the "hotplate" is too small to take a standard ceramic mug.

The USB ports would only support memory sticks not an external hard disk that works directly from the port on my laptop without external power. I then noticed a DC in socket marked 5v, I have a universal mains adaptor with various size plugs and a polarity switch, it also has various voltage settings from 3v-12v (available on Amazon for around £3.50 to £7.50). I set this to 5v and plugged it in, voila the USB now supports external hard drive. I left it for a few minutes and then touched the hotplate, ouch, it burnt me, not blisteringly hot but too hot to touch like a household radiator on full.

So it is now a useful POWERED hub. As to the mug, I searched for a stainless steel mug on Amazon and found one at an outdoor/camping sellers listing for around £6.00. When it arrived I couldn't wait to try it. It kept my tea hot for about an hour which is just what I wanted, as I often let my tea go cold whilst working on the computer.

All in all if you need to keep a beverage drinkable for an hour and are willing to buy or already have
a stainless mug and unversal adaptor to use it as a powered hub and mug warmer (total cost around £15.00) then I would recommend this item, If it's just the warmer you want then don't bother it will disappoint I would rate it as 1* not4*.

The seller should, in my opinion, look into sourcing an adaptor and mug to suit and market it as a package.

this mug warmer is absolutely useless. it can't keep itself - warm never mind a brew. its not designed to work with stoneware or any other ceramic mug/cup, but only a very thin chrome mug made by the same company(its the metal mug pictured with the warmer). it doesn't state this on amazon or even the box it arrives in, nope, it only states this in the instructions uncased inside the box.

amazon are not to blame here, they probably didn't know about this con and i think the manufacturer is false advertising this product. well, not anymore, because i've sent an email to amazon complaining about this and i would advise others to do the same. i'm not happy.

This USB cup warmer is of such a low power that it does not even keep drinks hot in a metal cup, probably more useful to get two and lean on them at your desk to keep your elbows warm. Cannot be used as a USB hub either as anything plugged into the ports will not register.

Very disappointing. Totally a waste of money.
Firstly,it doesn't keep the mug warm unless it's a metallic one. Nobody mentioned it anywhere in the description on the website. They mention it in the directions inside the box (too late...).
Also, the usb hub is 1.1 which is not compatible with the usual usb.
So, don't buy it.

According to instructions that come with item only works with totally flat bottomed metal cup

i bought a cup matching this description. Doesn't work.

Also usb ports are usb 1 not 2.0 so just adds to the pointlessness of the product

I checked carefully before I bought this item. Nowhere does it mention the need for only flat-based metal mugs that the accompanying leaflet makes plain. With the ordinary ceramic kind that most non-camping humans employ, it does not work at all. I would call that deception by omission. Avoid.

1 Star only because I must - though it did arrive *very* quickly.

Its simple plug in and go. works as a 4 way USB port and also heats your warm beverage to keep it at drinking temperature for a prolonged period of time. Very happy with this little gadget.

Sadly, this is just a gimmick and does not really work. It heats up enough that you wouldn't want to touch it, but not enough to keep a hot drink warm - it hardly warms through the cup at all. Sad as I was looking forward to this, but there are probably safety and power-supply issues preventing these things from being made much hotter.

The fact that it is also a USB hub is really clever, and the construction of the warmer is better than I'd expected, but sadly it is not capable of providing its primary function.

as long as you have the mug to go with it (which it doesn't come with, nor does it tell you you need to buy before purchasing, but IS sold by the same company) and you alter the input then it's fine. adequate. but if you don't want to have to buy extras just to get the original item to work then it's rubbish. i also find i like it less because i feel like i was conned when there was no mention of what kind of mug this would work with, if a product is only effective with one particular mug, then include the mug and increase the price a bit, don't price them separately, that's just frustrating!
