USB Cup warmer
on 19 April 2012
I initially thought this item was useless! it got no warmer than the temperature you would heat a baby bottle ready to feed, also the diameter of the "hotplate" is too small to take a standard ceramic mug.
The USB ports would only support memory sticks not an external hard disk that works directly from the port on my laptop without external power. I then noticed a DC in socket marked 5v, I have a universal mains adaptor with various size plugs and a polarity switch, it also has various voltage settings from 3v-12v (available on Amazon for around £3.50 to £7.50). I set this to 5v and plugged it in, voila the USB now supports external hard drive. I left it for a few minutes and then touched the hotplate, ouch, it burnt me, not blisteringly hot but too hot to touch like a household radiator on full.
So it is now a useful POWERED hub. As to the mug, I searched for a stainless steel mug on Amazon and found one at an outdoor/camping sellers listing for around £6.00. When it arrived I couldn't wait to try it. It kept my tea hot for about an hour which is just what I wanted, as I often let my tea go cold whilst working on the computer.
All in all if you need to keep a beverage drinkable for an hour and are willing to buy or already have
a stainless mug and unversal adaptor to use it as a powered hub and mug warmer (total cost around £15.00) then I would recommend this item, If it's just the warmer you want then don't bother it will disappoint I would rate it as 1* not4*.
The seller should, in my opinion, look into sourcing an adaptor and mug to suit and market it as a package.
