4.0 out of 5 stars Great in parts, but not as edgy or funny as it should've been
"Hamlet 2" is a film split between heading in two directions.

The best sections are where Steve Coogan (putting aside his questionable American accent) plays a failed actor in the middle of a nervous breakdown, with endless issues and immature reactions to problems leading to some great farce. It's a comedy about censorship, controversy and freedom of speech,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Embarrassing Coogan vehicle...
The idea is a fair one but this first Steve Coogan headlining Hollywood vehicle is almost mis-titled. It should be more like 'Dopey high-school drama teacher attempts to put on a school play', but that's not as snappy and certainly wouldn't have the literates and lovers of the Bard double-checking it.

It's not actually THAT bad but as we know Coogan in his more...

A hilarious little gem and a fine performance by Coogan. It is a shame it didn't get the attention it deserved.

This is probably the first movie i've disliked all year.. was it steve coogans awful american accent? was it the awful script? was it the dire exicution of the entire film? Well it was all 3, and probably more things but i'm so gutted it was bad i'm too upset to think of anymore! But on a serious note i love steve coogan, from his alan partridge days, and will continue to think of him in that manner and try and erase this attempt at a feature length film go over my head so i can enjoy his future films. But in this he really wasn't funny in anyway, more so embarrasing :/

Just reading some other reviews saying how brilliant it was.. apparently people like this film.. ? ? REALLY? ? ?? well that is a shocker :p but anyway, maybe you could like it if you reaaaaally clutched at straws, but it's not in the same league as anything remotely funny.. unfortunately.

2/10 - Coogan stick to old Alan please

1.0 out of 5 stars An insult to Hamlet, 2 Jan. 2011

Very very poor show indeed. I only purchased this because it stars the hugely talented Steve Coogan, but I am surprised that he actually associated himself with this drivel. Stick to Alan Partridge...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Rock me sexy Jesus", 11 Feb. 2009

Steve Coogan plays a failed (and strange) actor who is teaching drama in a Tuscon high school. The class is about to get pulled, his married life is far from happy and most of his students think he is an arse. He laments his wasted life and decides to write his own play....Hamlet 2. Think of the Michelle Pfeiffer film "Dangerous minds" and you get the picture. Anyhow, the play involves Hamlet travelling back in time (with the help of Jesus) to stop everyone from Hamlet dying. The play is in the form of a musical (don't worry, the musical is only at the end and really is worth waiting for) but faces opposition from the local community who view it as immoral. It's a crazy but really, really funny film and is worth checking out. Coogan is over the top but the role suits him down to the ground.

Absolute dynamite! Drama/Comedy at it's best should rightly be put with Napoleon Dynamite as another excellantly and weirdly funny comedy which will have you quoting it for days afterward.

YEEEEAAAAHHHH!

3.0 out of 5 stars Generally good, 16 Aug. 2011

It's arrived in good condition and working fine but the only thing that I can find wrong was it took slightly longer than I would have hoped, but apart from that it was good.
