5.0 out of 5 stars Superb
There are many recordings of the Durufle Requiem, but this one brings something new to the market. Firstly it's Durufle's own "organ only" arrangement - so no orchestra, which helps bring the superb choral writing into focus (and the organ part is played very well indeed by Jeremy Filsell). Secondly, the soloists (Sarah Connolly and Christopher Maltman) are top class...

1.0 out of 5 stars insipid and bland singing. Excellent organ playing.
I own many recordings of this wonderful piece. I am impressed with the organ playing; however I think that this is a bad choice of organ for the colours of this French music. The singing is starved of life through very poor vocal technique (all voice types)and the upper two voices are very brittle in sound.
Stay clear of this recording. There are many beautiful...

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 8 May 2009
There are many recordings of the Durufle Requiem, but this one brings something new to the market. Firstly it's Durufle's own "organ only" arrangement - so no orchestra, which helps bring the superb choral writing into focus (and the organ part is played very well indeed by Jeremy Filsell). Secondly, the soloists (Sarah Connolly and Christopher Maltman) are top class. Thirdly the choral singing by the Vasari Singers is excellent throughout. And lastly it is recorded very well.

The filler tracks include Durufle's lovely "4 motets" - the first of which, Ubi Caritas, is a real gem.

Highly recommended.

This is a really beautiful recording of one of my favourite choral works. Lots of feeling and a lovely choir - beautifully blended with NO wobbly women!

After hearing this music in Bath Cathedral a couple of years ago decided to get a CD of it. This is a wonderful recording and has given me fresh insight into the piece.

Stay clear of this recording. There are many beautiful renditions of this work. I also find some of the vocal lines 'clunky' and this can only be down to the conductor. The recording quality is good.
