I've been a Shawn Colvin fan for many years and this album is definitely a welcome addition to her studio albums.
What is great about this album is that it features stripped down acoustic arrangements, with next to no backing (in fact even the drum sounds could easily be guitar case slaps). This means that all the songs they are significantly different from the studio versions and live band versions. It also allows Shawn's voice and guitar playing to (rightly) take centre stage.
For me the stand out tracks were Tennessee, Trouble, Matter of Minutes, and a great cover of Gnarles Barkley's Crazy.
(p.s. I listened to the full album Spotify, just in case you wondered as the CD's only available for pre-order).

Shawn Colvin is one of my favourite singer-songwriters and I have all her albums. Live '88 is one of my favourites. Unfortunately I was little bit disappointed with this new live album. Maybe I had expected too much. If you want a Shawn Colvin live album, I would buy Live '88. I has more spirit somehow and a more interesting selection of songs. This album is just a kind of "Greatest Hits" live. If that's what you want, buy it!

I `ve seen Shawn play 3 times over here in the uk over the past years , each time she has come on stage armed with just her wonderful list of stories via her songs and a guitar , that's all that she needs to take you to a different place for a couple of hours.. And that's just what this CD does for you . I'm always amazing that she can hold the stage with her outstanding solo performance , don't get me wrong , Shawn sounds great with a band to back her up , but solo just brings out so much more to her songs , This is what she does best and at long last this Live release give everyone a chance to fully appreciate what an outstanding performer , singer songwriter Shawn is...
Just load this on you ipod , go for a walk or a drive and enjoy....

I have been a huge fan of Shawn Colvin for many years and have seen her live a couple of times, this album demonstrates her obvious ability not only as a singer/song writer but also as a very able guitarist who is able to captivate an audience without all the backing and nonsense that so often can accompany so many live performances by other artists.A great selection of songs have been chosen for this album from fairly recent material to some from her first record, it has a wonderful ambience, just revel in the sound that comes from a fabulous voice
