For five year old these robots are easy to transform from car to robot but not so easy to transform back.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very nice representation of Prime, 9 Aug 2009

Well, I personally did not want to fork out the money for the leader class Prime, and for a while I wasn't sold on this guy looking at the packaging, I bought it with reasonably low intentions as I was under a strong belief that the leaser would be the only good prime. Boy was I in for a treat.

In my mind, this figure is great! He has a very nice vehicle mode, some nice detail and his paint is rather nice, a little dark, but quite nice. My only complaint is the Autobot and Cybertronian symbol, however I don't see these as any major complaint.

In the instructions, he has a 'vehicle attack mode' which I feel is a little 'what can we cobble together to make it seem like we're giving them more' sort of a thing, his smokestacks and petrol/oil tanks rotate round and form guns with firing missiles that pertrude from the front of the truck. It's really nothing to bother about really, perhaps a nice little addition for kids, but nothing brilliant.

The robot mode is rather nice, he has good articulation and detail and seems a good representation of prime, perhaps a little more faithful to the flat torso of the early generation primes, and suits this nicely, the weapons are alright, nothing special, but nice nonetheless, however, this figure comes with a rather large but. He has a huge backpack, which is a little disappointing and being pinned to his back, isn't removable, it's huge. However, it can be folded down, rather than up behind his head which does look a lot better, but it is still there; some may view this as something which ruins the figure, I personally do not.

All in all, a nice figure and a nice Pirme, I'd really recommend picking this up if a fan of Optimus and a definate buy if you have any voyager Megatron figures, a nice toy for children too.

8/10

I bought this as a present for my 5 year old grandson, after reading other reviews about how difficult it was to transform I was very dubious, but bought it anyway. Some people said it had taken them hours to transform, but my son,his dad,did it in 10 minutes. And then back again,my grandson loves it,well worth the cost.
