5.0 out of 5 stars Definitve Gil Scott-Heron
This album has it all: spectacular lyrics, dynamic delivery and a classic dance track (Racetrack in France). Those familiar with Scott-Heton's poetry and music will love this album; and for others this is a wonderful introduction.

3.0 out of 5 stars short on quality across the whole collection
not up to the heights of 'johannesburg' or 'winter' with only a couple of standout tracks - the rest are somewhat below par

Other masterpiece of Gil Scott Heron & Brian Jackson that together with "Winter in America", "Pieces hand of" and "Reflections", they are the capisaldis of the black music.
The song, "We Almost Lost Detroit" which shares its title with the John G. Fuller book published in 1975, recounts the story of the nuclear meltdown at the Fermi Atomic Power Plant near Monroe, MI, in 1966. It was performed at the No Nukes concert in September 1979 at Madison Square Garden. This song was also contributed to the No Nukes album in November 1979 and No Nukes concert film in May 1980.

4.0 out of 5 stars Red and Black, 5 Sept. 2009

The band seems to take over on the later 70's GSH records. More funk, more politics, more world-view. I prefer the more personal songs of earlier records or of the, later, Spirits. But, still, there's a lot to like on this album - the jaunty 'Vildgolia', the zonked out 'We Almost Lost Detroit.' Definitely worth buying, if you're a fan. Though, if you are relatively new to GSH, Winter in America might be a better place to start.

Also, what about that cover? A beautiful piece of vinyl. CD's, MP3's. I'm not convinced.
