Blue-Ray novice,
By
This review is from: Sony BDPS360 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player with BD Live (Electronics)
I bought this product on the strength of the customer reviews and have not regretted it. This is my first Blue-Ray player and as I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about or whether I would notice much of a difference compared to my current DVD player. Having now played both DVD and Blue-Ray discs I can honestly say that its a cracking piece of kit. I notice the price is even lower as I write this review (but I'm not bitter) from when I purchased the item which makes it even more of a bargain. If like me you are toying with the idea of purchasing your first Blue-ray player I'd highly recommend this one.

First foray into Blu ray,

I had been looking around for a while for a Blu ray player to go with a Samsung LCD TV and had initially wanted to stay with Samsung for the commonality of remote etc.But having read positive reviews of this player on a good few sites and Amazon's cracking price I opted to go for this one. The unit is nice and compact and looks high quality. Plugged the HDMI lead (not supplied# into this and the TV, a patch cable #not supplied# to my router and a memory stick #not supplied) for BD Live features. The setup process was straight forward and done in minutes. You need the internet connection and external storage if you want to use the BD Live on some disks. Also the memory stick socket is in the back so it's just as well to put one in when setting up, they recommend 1GB minimum. Without any further setting up the Samsung TV and Sony player recognised each other and as soon as the disk went in the TV switched input and displayed up 1080p 24fps. Also you can program the Sony remote to work the on/off and volume on most mainstream TV brands so you can leave the TV remote on the shelf. Watched a few films so far and the detail/definition is WOW, as good as they make it out to be, I have not felt compelled to fiddle with any settings at all. The level of detail on buildings on sweeping landscape scenes and close up shots of peoples faces is incredible. CGI animation such as Star Wars - The Clone Wars is so defined, no fuzzy edges also just as impressive. Worth every penny if you have shelled out for a HDTV!

BluRay cures the blues,

This review is from: Sony BDPS360 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player with BD Live (Electronics)
At 82 I thought it was time to see what all the fuss about BluRay and HD was really about. I oredered the Sony BDPS360B and in usual Amazon service it was with me extraordinarily quickly. I set about unpacking and being a technophobe was wary about setting it up. It was easy and the instructions actually made sense. Very soon I was able to watch an old holiday DVD of mine. Who were these people with crystal clear faces and how long had I had those wrinkles!!When I purchased a BluRay disc and played that I thought my lounge was being invaded by wildlife - so good was the reproduction. Why did I have to wait 82 years to witness this and what's next for me?

I bought this along with a 37" Sony Bravia LCD TV (W series). Very easy to set-up, and with Bravia sync, it works from either remotes. Hook it up with a good HDMI cable, and you're ready to go! DVD up-scaling is quite impressive (been watching Lord of the Rings), and it looks as good as Blu-ray! When playing Blu-ray, the picture quality is simply superb. I would highly recommend this, more so if you're buying or already have a Sony TV.

After looking for some time for a Blu-Ray player (my first) I almost bought the 350 model, but I took so long to decide that the 360 came out first. I am so pleased to have purchased this player, it is excellent, Blu-Ray movies are exceptional and upscaling is far better than I could have hoped for.I read reports on this unit from American sites who had this player first, and was almost put off by too much "anorak" talk. Do not listen, if you want a player that does the job, plays DVD's in great quality, this is it. Easy to set up and fast loading of Blu-ray films. I would recommend this player to anyone.

Difficult to compare with others - first impressions are good,

I bought this on a whim after spending a lot of time reading reviews of AV receivers and plumping for a Sony. I already have a Sony HD TV and so it seemed sensible to buy a bit of kit that connected well using Bravia Sync. Someone who'd bought the same AV receiver as me mentioned this in their review and, like a mad man, I clicked the link and bought it!I can only speak about first impressions for now. I'll update later when I've used it for longer. I played the Earth blu-ray DVD which Amazon currently has on offer and was immediately blown away with the quality of the image. The navigation offered by the player is excellent - a side menu appears on the screen , or there's a series of chapter images along the bottom. A real step up from DVD players. Connecting it was no problem as you'd expect - HDMI cable in to the back of the AV receiver (incidentally, you need to buy a cable, there isn't one in the box! Be careful though - I bought several cables from Linx via Amazon and the rubber ends are too wide if you have to put more than one cable in a row. If you're only connecting one device to your TV or receiver, it shouldn't be a problem. I also played a CD in the player. I haven't played a CD in years, usually ripping them straight to iTunes and streaming them to my AppleTV and then my speakers. I was surprised at the quality - blown away in fact. I don't think it's anything to do with AAC v CD and it may be due to the AV receiver adding detail and warmth, but as a CD player the BDPS360B is excellent. Playing a standard DVD works well too and the upscaling seems okay though I'm not sure if I'm imagining it! The quality of the image is better than my 8/9 year old DVD player for sure. One thing I'm disappointed with is the lack of SACD. I only have one SACD but having heard the quality of the audio from this machine, I think I'd have bought many more and, considering it's Sony's own format and there are quite a few SACDs out there for the serious audiophiles, it's an odd omission. It means I either have to keep my old DVD player or abandon the format. Fortunately only having bought one disc means it's not a huge issue. If you hav no idea what I'm talking about, ignore it. If you do, you might need to have a think. I'm not sure Sony do a Blu-Ray with SACD. I've never used a Blu-Ray player before and had heard they take some time to get started. That's certainly true of this model, though I understand it's faster than most. It's funny how we find such things annoying (I remember VHS and waiting for the tape to load and start and then rewind...). All in all, first impressions are good.

Magnificent Player......,

.....in every respect. I own a Samsung upscaling DVD player (Samsung DVD-1080P9 DVD Player - Black), but decided to go HD with this player - a decision that I have not regretted. The first blu-ray disc that I bought was Planet Earth (Planet Earth: Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray]) - some scenes are awesome on my 37" Toshiba TV. The Sony seems more reliable than the Samsung, which often crashes, particularly when starting. The picture settings also seem perfectly balanced, whites often looking washed out on the Samsung. The only downsides are that this player does not play YouTube or DivX, but I would just watch these on the pc anyway.

This is a quality Blu-ray player, as you would expect for the price. The player is very easy to setup, just follow the on screen instructions. Further customisation can be found in the setup menu. It's a very slim machine, no where near as bulky as cheaper models. It's also very sleak, the whole front panel drops down when you press eject. The picture quality is top notch. I tried some regular DVDs in it first to see the upgrade quality, very impressed. Sound and picture are visibly upgraded and breathe new life into some well-watched films. Blu-ray films are amazingly good. The sound alone is worth the price (very detailed), the picture is, as you would expect, excellent. Along with the films you also get a ton of new features that can be accessed at any time. A highly recommended blu-ray player that will stand the test of time I'm sure.

I'm new to Blu-Ray format and I wasn't sure what to expect. Honestly, I thought I would not see much difference between the two formats, but I was definitely wrong. The picture quality is superb and easily noticed. I agree that there's a noticeable difference when it improves the quality of regular DVDs to HD-DVD. I couldn't be happier with it!

Best Blu-Ray Picture Iv'e seen!,

This review is from: Sony BDPS360 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player with BD Live (Electronics)
I work for currys and as such have the benefit of seeing a welth of blu-ray players and Hi-def TV's, In short my store has a 60" 1080p 600Hz Plasma on display using the finest HDMI cable's and over the last few months several blu-ray players have been rigged upto it from names such as Panasonic,Samsung, LG, Philips, Sharp and earlier model Sony players, all have been demo'd with the same set of films, all at 1080p and all through the same cable and TV.But when I saw this was when I bought into blu-ray, the picture is noticably better than the other players but most importantly the animation througout action sequences was the best, with the least jitter and blurring. Now the Good: Pristine 1080p picture supporting the latest HDMI standards Fantastic sound proformance and it supports HD audio which many cheaper players don't It looks sleek and operates quietly and reliably DVD upscaling is even better than through an HDMI Xbox360 The not so good: It isn't as fast at booting up as some other players, but it outperforms them where it counts Thats about it. In conclusion, If you own an HDTV, It is wasted without blu-ray. |
