I bought this toy for my daughter aged 20 months and she loves it - she spends ages putting the pieces back on the pegs and has now figured out colour groupings and loves sorting the different colours and then putting all the coloured pieces on the correct pegs.

It seems pretty durable so far (has been thrown around quite a lot) and its nice bright colours too. Only downside is that its not so great to store as it doesn't come in a box or anything but thats the same for most toys out there! I would definitely recommend this toy.

Oh my word. Having had Melissa and Doug items previously I was left absolutely horrified by this item. We opened it in my little boys bedroom and wondered why sawdust came out too. On inspection there were live weevils in the wood which were now crawling around in the carpet. My son's bedroom was full of wooden furniture and we were also worried about the floor boards and eaves. So i spent the next hour vacuuming to make sure they were gone. I reported this directly to Melissa and Doug who's reaction was poor to say the least. We had to chase them to get a response and provided them with photographic evidence and kept the item in the greenhouse in case they wanted us to send it to them. Were they bothered? Not in the least. Offered for me to choose another product to the same value. For a £5 product, no thank you! I wanted it investigating but they obviously didn't feel the need.
Aside from the weevils, the product was really badly made and nothing lined up where it should have.
I shall be sticking to plastic products from now on which is a shame. If I could give 0 stars I would!

We bought this as a 2nd birthday present for my son but actually could have used it much earlier (15 - 18 months?). He immediately grasped the concept of sorting the shapes onto the different pegs, so it hasn't been that challenging for him. My son doesn't play with it much on his own, but enjoys playing with me when I ask e.g. can you find another blue square, which one is the triangle, etc. My husband pointed out that the number of sides of each object matches the number of items there are (e.g. 4 sides to a square, 4 squares) which I thought was quite clever! Hoping to get loads more use in the future as my 4 month old daughter grows up. It fits very well with the Montessori ethos if you are following that style of education.

I actually bought this as a present for a friends son, but I have similar M&D products for my own child. This toy takes children through a numer of developmental skills, (I believe), from picking up different shaped objects, placing them on the pegs, sorting by colour/shape.... I am told my friend's son loves the toy!

The only tiny complaint i have is that the wood appears to be a soft wood, which my daughter has managed to chew through (teething) and some of her pieces (in the shape sorting cube) have splintered and been taken away for now. Having said this, it wouldnt prevent me buying more M&D products.

Good old fashioned wooden toys - I do not think you can beat them, splinters and all...

Having bought Melissa and Doug before I was looking forward to a good quality item. This was far from, the pegs weren't in a straight line, the wood wasn't best quality, one of the pieces was almost split in two when I received it.
Good service from Amazon though, refunded me the money very quickly when I complained.

I guess you get what you pay for, Melissa and Doug usually retail for more than this, so I can only assume it was a fake due to the low price and rubbish quality.

Have read some of the other reviews so maybe they aren't all fake that are sent out!

Paint has been chipping but my 2 yr old son loves it and plays with it for a good amount of time. But I still don't understand why this has to be an expensive toy

Bought this for my daughters first Christmas. After 1 day of playing with it and chewing on all the parts, so much of the paint has come off.. Now, 2 weeks after received, it looks like a toy that's been handed down by many kids before hger.

Love the product though and the idea. She loves it and that's all that matters!

My son is 2.5 ad has cerebral palsy. These are an ideal size for him to get stacking and sorting, with a bargain price tag. Definiteoy worth the money! Id recommend for younger children from about 18months (without any motor delays or learning difficulties) as they are very chunky. I can see these lasting a few years for sure!

Bought this for my 20 month old - she absolutely loves it but had it sorted as soon as the packaging was off! She now takes great pleasure in tipping them off the pegs, mixing them up and then putting back in the right order. This is a great toy, much better value than other plastic products available. Highly recommended.

This is a great educational toy which will be great when my little boy gets older. At nearly 18 months he likes to tip it upside down & tries to put the shapes back but he gets bored. Will be good when hes older for learning colours, shapes and counting.
