5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most under-rated bands ever!, 1 Jun. 2009
By
Philly Blunt (Glasgow, Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frames + DVD (Audio CD)
I already had the album of this and was unaware that a DVD version even existed, so when I found out about this, I just had to have it.

This DVD captures all the awesome power of one of their live shows (without the audience unfortunately) and is completely mesmerising. This bands change tempos and textures of sound in one song in an almost schizophrenic way, which is what makes each album release intensely interesting. Not knowing quite what to expect keeps me interested in artists and musicians in general.

All songs pack a mighty punch and then soften the blow with moments of tender beauty. My personal favourites are 'Savant', 'Only Twin' and 'An Old Friend Of The Christy's'.

For people who look for adventure, melody, brutality and unpredictability in their music, check out this band.

Frames is very delicate, yet very powerful a true feast of intricate passages supported by great songs. Frames is a true progression from Everyone into position, A TRUE MASTERPIECE Steve

5.0 out of 5 stars OCEANSIZE In the comfert of your Living Room, 16 Jun. 2008

If your a fan of Oceansize then this DVD will blow your mind, it's the whole of the Terrific FRAMES album played live from start to finish (be warned though there is no version of Vorhees here) with the aid of 12 Cameras. The live setting is a simple one as it's an old warehouse where the boys practice but the use of different camera angles, colours and effects transform this set into something truly incredible. The sound is also impressive and if you have a half decent T.V you will be more than happy with the quality.
You also get a making of FRAMES doc and picture slide show which in all comes to 120 Minutes of sheer brilliance. O.K I know if you already purchased FRAMES before then you may be abit miffed about owning it again but do not fear, the purchase price of this edition of FRAMES is worth every penny if only for the DVD alone.
The Bottom Line is that you need this in your collection - Just ignore the crappy sticker you get with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, 26 July 2009
By
Birdnut (Cambridgeshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frames + DVD (Audio CD)
Oceansize are in my opinion the best British band out there at the moment, eclipsing the likes of Muse and Radiohead. The album 'Frames' (the band's third) is such awesome stuff, so awsome in fact that earlier today I played Voorhees, Commemorative...t shirt, Unfamiliar, and Trail of Fire on my way to Cambridge in the car. By the time the incredible finale to Trail of Fire was playing, tears were trickling down my face. Now when music is so bloody good as to do that to you, it doesn't get any better. This is no 'radio friendly' pap, it's just seriously good quality music. And with this package you not only get this amazing album, you also get a DVD of them playing it (minus the bonus track 'Voorhees') in a giant warehouse pretty much note perfect. Anyone into complex heavy rock, this album and DVD package should certainly be checked out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superball Music - Cashing in or simply stupid?, 14 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Frames + DVD (Audio CD)
This reviewer is a cynic and wants to believe that all record companies are out there simply to make money. But its hard to do that with such a quality product. It makes me think that the included cd is without track number 9 (Vorhees which is on the normal edition) because of a bungling idiot in charge of promotions at the record company (Superball Music) who obviously just messed up and sent it out to press before checking all the songs were burned to disk!

All this aside, the dvd is just amazing, seeing the guys in action and playing the album you "just" bought (hehe) is great. I love Oceansize, from my head to my toes, they really are simply one of the best muscial forces on the planet...nay...the universe...but the bungle, im afraid, means this only gets 4/5.
