This is simply fantastic! Remember those days on the North Bank at Upton Park, the geezer walking around selling little bags of peanuts out of a sack? Wagon wheels and Bovril from the snack bar in the North-East Corner? Brooking, Moore, Bonds, Clyde Best, Lampard Snr, Devonshire, Cross, Stewart, Martin..... and waiting for ever for the 238 bus on the Barking Road after the game as the traffic was backed up bumper to bumper for as far as you could see? And on Sunday afternoons after Mum's Sunday roast dinner, you'd sit in front of the old TV (rented from Visionhire in Ilford!) and watch the smooth Brian Moore present The Big Match! This DVD brings it all vividly back to life - the LWT indents, the familiar theme tune, it's all there! Wins over Spurs, Man Utd, Arsenal, etc are all there, together with player and manager interviews and all the extras such as Jim Rosenthal's Newsdesk, Viewers Letters, Jimmy Hill on Refereeing, Fun Spots, etc which all helped to make The Big Match THE football highlights show, with a much more laid back feel to it than the stuffiness and bland corporacy of Match of the Day on BBC.
I really cannot recommend this DVD highly enough, especially for when those dark winter evenings draw in.
Up the Hammers!!

The new series of 'Big Match' DVDs recently released by ILC Media are an absolute must for anyone that loves their football with a healthy portion of nostalgia on the side.
The West Ham DVD from the series is packed full of highlights from matches shown on the classic ITV programme from the late 60's to the early 80's. Each match is preceded by the opening Big Match titles and LWT ident from that particular year along with Brian Moore's introduction from the same programme. Many of the games are concluded by some extra dialogue from Moore, the early ones often featuring Jimmy Hill who also appeared on the show in the late 60's/early 70's.
As well as the excellent footage from the ITV Sport archives, there's a comprehensive collection of extras including material from the Christmas specials, letters from the Viewers' postbag and the Fun Spots which gave The Big Match a more light-hearted feel compared to Match of the Day.
If you love the nostalgia of football from a bygone era, these Big Match DVD's will be right up your street. Check the full range to see if your team's included!

The late great Brian Moore introducing classic West Ham matches on ITVs The Big Match. Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Billy Bonds, Trevor Brooking, Bryan Pop Robson, Alan Devonshire, Tony Cottee... no more words necessary. My seven year old mini Hammer has watched it over and over as a 'history' lesson
