4.0 out of 5 stars Going Back To Old Triumphs
As fans of the Carry-On films will know, British comedy of the 60s and 70s was extremely, extremely popular. 'Bless This House' is a classic example of a tradition not based on large budgets and extravagant settings, but on roar, honest and even predictable humor. Majoritively, people will find the comedy of 'Bless this House' to be innuendo after innuendo of cheek and...

3.0 out of 5 stars The world is a sadder place with no Sid James in it
In the 70s, a TV show only really had to get slightly positive reviews and it was a dead cert that a movie spin-ff would be forthcoming. Here we see the ITV comedy transformed to the big screen by the producers of the Carry On series.

The TV show was an example of how realxing and enjoyable TV used to be, before everything, including comedy, started to take...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Family Comedy Team Now on the Big Screen!, 12 Jun. 2013
The TV Sitcoms of the 70s almost all had one thing in common: an inability to forecast changes in fashion and youth culture, and an instantly dated quality that created instant classics. Along with On The Buses, Porrige, and others, this movie stands out for great performances by Sid James (catch any Carry On.... movie he's in) , Diana Coupland, Sally Geeson and Robin Askwith as the disfunctional family that started it all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sid James fan, 3 Aug. 2012

I bought this dvd more because I"m a Sid james fan than a fan of the tv sreies.I"ts an enjoyable watch that covers many aspects of family life. Sid plays the family man here and there is none of the saucy stuff from the Carry On days.
The story looks at the problems around the generation gap, neighbour disputes & suburban life.In reality its a feel good movie & though it now appears dated its still an enjoyable watch

4.0 out of 5 stars Sid James - a comic genius, 20 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bless This House [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm too young to remember this series (or this film) when it was first around, and yes the 'jokes' are a little cheesy and of course (being the 70s) the fashions are awful - but hey - it stars Sid James and he was a genius so that's all there is to say.

Bought the series great stuff. Looked online buy the "Bless This House" movie at a cheap price on Amazon. Well I'm very sorry, but I don't think £20 pounds is cheap at all.In fact on the contrary - exorbitant or words to the effect.
