This is a great compilation. For me it features four stand-out tracks:

The Sidewinder - Lee Morgan
The Piano solo might be weak, but otherwise this is one of the most popular Blue Note tracks around. The sound quality on this compilation is great - better than more recent releases which compress the dynamics. Sounds fresh and clear here.

Cantaloupe Island - Herbie Hancock
So laid back, yet with a gentle pulsing rhythm. I love this.

Chili Peppers - Duke Pearson
At times, this is almost 1/4 of the way to being a cheesy TV theme tune - but of course this is classic Blue Note and never strays into that territory. Beautifully crafted.

Dem Tambourines - Don Wilkerson
Simple but effective track which builds from the drums upwards.

There are other compilations which claim to be the only Blue Note album you'll ever need. Well, if one CD satisfies you, you probably didn't need it in the first place. But in terms of mostly up-beat, accessible, ultra cool, mostly 1960s tracks, what's here is hard to beat.

Some good examples of 60's Blue Note grooves before the electric bass and funk came on the scene. Recommended.
