Great little set,

I bought this TV/DVD for our bedroom. I have tried several other sets and this is the best by far. One gripe with other sets is that the standby light is so bright and annoyiny you have to get out of bed and turn the set off - this set has a small unobtrusive light. Another reviewer complained about the stand not being easily detached - I didn't find this the case and easily removed it by taking out two screws. Great looking TV sleek and glossy black. Great picture and the sound compared to many of its rivals of this price/size is good.Easy set up and yes there are a few niggles when navigating the guide and using the remote but on the whole a great second TV.

Repeated Faulty Units !!,

I bought this TV, and it turns itself on from standby at random times of the day and night.I returned it for replacement, and the 2nd unit is exactly the same, and I've now returned that one too ! I have had dialogue with Toshiba over this, who are unable to help other than comment "we've had a few reports of this problem". I'm now shopping for another brand. Beware !

My general analysis is I am pleased with the TV which is an ideal size for my bedroom which is situated 6ft away at most so isn't to much on the eyes. Had no worries fitting a standard cantilever wall bracket to the back and is supplied with a clear and easy to use remote control. My only grumble with this TV are when you select the GUIDE to view the TV listings, as soon as you scroll up or down to any channel it automatically takes you to the channel you are scrolling over as well as losing a visual on what you are watching, where as I know the SAMSUNG allows you to carry on viewing the same channel while browsing the Guide which wont move the channel as you move up or down. One more concern was at first the sound on occasion was tinny and a little distorted but I put it down to being new and unused, no problems as yet anyway. So I think you will be fairly pleased especially as the range of TV's with the DVD player in built are few in quality

I recently bought this TV/DVD combi for the bedroom as a replacement for the separate TV/DVD/Freeview box that I had in there. It was delivered in the time specified by Amazon and in good condition. The set-up is automatic once you plug it in and attach an aerial and that's it really. It's so easy to use that my six year old twins can happily work the TV guide and switch between TV/DVD themselves. Yes, there is a short pause for the TV to come on when you press the Standby/On button, but in reality who is in so much of a hurry to watch TV that they can't wait ~15 seconds. The only gripe is that when you scroll between channels through the TV guide, the TV automatically moves to that channel: meaning that you can't surf the guide whilst still watching the same channel. This can be avoided by pressing Enter when watching a TV channel and then scrolling through the channel list that appears, as this doesn't cause the TV to change channel. The only problem here is that you don't get any programme info, so you have to know what you want to watch first. DVD playback is as expected on any decent DVD player these days and this TV also benefits in having a coaxial digital out for Dolby Digital and DTS audio, a feature not seen on every TV in this price bracket. I would recomment this TV as a good second set for the bedroom, etc..., but is a bit too small to have as a main set in the living room. I would definitely recommend going for the 22" though, the extra cash is well worth it over the 19".

Good product with one 'But',

Good product. The only negative comment I have is the sound level when replaying DVDs.I bought this product as a gift for elderly parents and even when the Sound control is increased to maximum setting (50) the sound reproduction of DVD soundtracks is normally a little TOO quiet for them (as they are now hard of hearing). Problem would be solved using a 5.1 amplifier and speakers, I expect, but the point about having a TV-DVD combi is to reduce the complexity of hardware they have to cope with.

I bought this TV/DVD to watch over breakfast in our new extension and, on the whole, it does the job very well.Installation is simplicity itself with the TV performing an analogue channel scan followed by a digital (Freeview) channel scan when it is first switched on. Picture quality is good if a bit "washed out" once the brightness and contrast had been moved to better settings for its sunny location. Sound is quiet and regularly needs to be set at half volume or more. The DVD player is easy to use as it doesn't have a tray to balance the disc in, but rather a "car style" slot which accepts the DVD into the left-hand side of the set, just above a discreet row of buttons which duplicate the main controls. The remote control is rather large and, I imagine, quite intimidating to someone unused to combination devices. You can have it in analogue TV, digital TV, digital radio, external input or DVD modes! The niggles: There's a "Please wait" start-up delay of a few seconds, even from standby. As a digital TV engineer, I know this is avoidable. The stand is permanently attached. It can be swung into a vertical position so that it lies flat against the wall if the TV is wall mounted. I wanted the TV wall mounted but on a swing arm and I thought the base would be obtrusive as it projects below the bottom of the TV by several inches even when in its vertical position, so I managed to dismantle enough of the stand to get its honking great base plate off. There are standard VESA mounting holes at 100mm centres but no screws supplied. As another reviewer has mentioned, it's annoying that surfing the guide causes loss of picture and also makes the TV change channel to each station as you surf past it. Again - completely avoidable. Maybe a personal preference, but I don't like Freeview receivers which separate the TV channels from the radio channels. On this TV, there's a remote control button ("TV/RADIO") for switching from one set of channels to the other, but you can't see the full Freeview line-up on one screen. The sound is quite tinny with no controls for treble or bass. On the whole, not a bad little TV/DVD combi and at a good price but I'm glad that we have a 42" plasma and surround sound in the lounge!

Good TV but issues with volume, auto turn on and DVD ejection...,
By
This review is from: Toshiba 22DV615DB 22-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD/DVD Combi with Freeview - Glossy Black (Electronics)
Generally we were initialy very impressed with the item. The setup was a dream... so easy. It worked fine but did turn itself on a few times but we thought that was a setup thing and overlooked it (see later!). The picture is great. The programme guide could show a picture but its OK... they are all differnt. The remote is great and so simple to use. We bought the wall bracket and found it very easy so am surprise at some of the comments about removing the stand, maybe we were lucky. On the down side... 1. The volume even at full blast is not very loud at all and with some programmes it really could do with being louder. 2. The automatic 'turning itself on' from standby has become a major problem. It has progressed to being a real pain and does it 80% of time. At bedtime or if going out we need to turn it off at the socket. 3. Latterly ejecting a DVD was becoming problematic and geting the chi8ldrens Black Beuty DVD out took days. 4. Tried to contact the helpline and the number doesn't exist. I noticed a comment about this non-existent number in a review of September 2009 and yet its still the same... whay is this? It wouldnt surprise me if they are still shipping with that number and no one at Toshiba (when I tracked them down) or Amazon seems remotely interested. Toshiba TV's seem to have a good reputation and we are buying another one now as a replacement. Amazon have accepted that there is an issue and are accepting the return. By the way when we turned the TV to standby we put the remote in a differnt room in case the remote button was to blame for turning ot on but the TV still came back on so its the TV and ot the remote. Shame, not a good experience but I hope the new one will be better. Amazon have been good on this apart from not calling back but thats not one of those things.

New television was for the bedroom but it spontaneously turns itself on in the middle of the night!I'm still waiting for Toshiba to provide a solution. I'd otherwise rate the TV as 4*

Stand Can Be Removed,

This is just an update to those who are saying that you can't remove the stand to mount this on the wall. My parents bought this tv and it was one of their concerns after reading the reviews here. The guy at the Toshiba shop, where they bought it, couldn't find how to remove it. Once my parents got this home they found Toshiba's, there is a number for Toshiba with the manual, this is out of date and the number is no longer in service..great help. They found a current number on the net at the Toshiba website and enquired about removal. The person advised that it can be removed and explained how to do it. Just look at the screws on the back plate, where the stand is and unscrew them. The stand comes away ready for mounting on a bracket, which my dad has already done.

I bought this t.v. for my conservatory. i have had the volume at 50 as far as it can go and when it is raining i can't hear. I am maybe being unfair i have not called the helpline yet to see if i can increase the volume setting. Apart from that it is great in every other way. I am just dissapointed at £200 it doesn't fit my needs.
