Pixma 9000,

This review is from: Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 Mark II (A3+ Printer, 4800 X 2400 dpi) Printer (Electronics)
This is a really first class printer and is good for any size up to A3. Speaking as an ex-pro photographer of 50 years standing, I can't tell the difference between the prints from this machine and a wet process print.

After a month or two of use I must say this is a quality product. The prints are first class and that is what a photo printer is for after all. I have tried several papers from different manufactures, they all look very good. The matt and art paper prints are the best I have seen. It has great tonal depth in mono prints too. You do need to ensure you select the correct paper type in the printer menu of course.I have only done A4, A3+ size prints, nothing smaller. The CD/DVD printer also does a great job. So why not 5 stars? It is rather slow to get into action as if it has a list of pre flight checks to go through. Then there is the printer price and the inks are not cheap either. You can get a full set of 9 Canon inks for £80! if you shop around. I have not used any compatible inks and to be honest the genuine Canon inks do seems to go a very long way. My previous printer was the Canon iX4000 A3+ printer. I used Jet tec compatible inks in that for years. The Canon inks go a hell of a lot further between replacements. They should too as 9 inks are contributing to the finished print. As a keen amateur photographer I am now getting print quality worthy of the images from my cameras. It does seem strange to get the best cameras and lenses you can, and not expect the same quality in the printed result. If your priority from your printer is TOP CLASS large prints, then this is for you 100%.

I bought this printer to replace my, then, six year old Epson 1920 which was beginning to create problems. The Pro 9000 worked well from the start and was easy to set up. The print quality is excellent, especially on A3+ paper. As with most photo printers you have to calibrate the colours to suit the type of paper used. Compared with the Epson this printer is blissfully quite and fast. It churns out A3+ Photos at best setting in seconds.I was concerned initially at the extortionate cost of ink, which the Pro 9000 can gobble up at a fast rate. In fact it was so expensive to run I kept doing all my letters and draft photos on the Epson which is ridiculously cheap to run with compatibles inks. Anyway, I now use compatible inks with the Pro 9000 and I haven't had any printing problems in over a year now and the price of ink is coming down. If you use the Pro 9000 regularly, the rapid ink consumption seems to reduce so I think much ink must be lost through it's head self cleansing at start up. You really test printers with A3+ Photo-quality paper. In this regard the Pro 9000 does a splendid job - highly recommended.

Great printer - superb quality, never jams, easy on the ink, even the Canon software is OK. Not much more to say!

I purchased this item else were but have to add I have printed both in colour and black and white the results in clarity are excellent the inks are a bit small I am planning to move to a CISS system when I have the spare money , I have noticed tho on some prints you can see marks I presume to be from the wheels which draw the paper in and through the printer some times more visable than others but on the whole an excellent printer

Very easy to set up and real lab quality output on photo paper (this is not just a marketing promise),crisp and true to colour, including skin tones, all this at a relatively fast pace. What is a shame (and costs the product a 5th star) is that Canon has engineered the driver to throw out of the printer list (on my MacBook Pro, how it behaves with Vista I don't know) all HP drivers and my color laser (Minolta) driver! This is not the first time (I had it previously with an old Pixma some years ago, but I had hoped they would have dropped this in the meantime). This is petty, completely unnecessary and very annoying, as I have several printers in 3 different locations, four of which are HP printers, and I have to re-install the drivers for all printers, courtesy of Canon Inc.

I've had this printer for a few weeks now and the results are truly outstanding skin tones are remarkably life like without being over-saturated.Print speeds are quick for an A3 printer and it is whisper quiet when printing. As in other reviews the foot print is very large and you will need plenty of space it you use the front feeder.I have just done an A3+ print of my son & daughter and can't believe the colour reproduction. A first class product and highly recommended if you want to step up to A3 printing

I have had this product for more than a year. Quality is perfect, but ink consumption can be subject to criticisme. I have never seen such an expensive printer... Buy it, if you need quality - and if you have an oncle in your family with strong financial background for printing...

First impression is the weight, then the size, quite a large footprint, so make sure you have somewhere strong and large enough to place it. No WiFi, so I bought a longer lead and have it about 2mtrs away from my laptop/desk. Easy to set up and comes with a free Adobe Elements 8 disk, a nice bonus if you don't have Photoshop or Lightroom. Borderless prints can be made, I noticed another comment saying they could not, anyway the printer can, just set up your printer settings accordingly. Very quiet in operation, also very quick for an A3 print. Quality is superb, even B&W, with a deep rich black. I have printed 8 A3 prints and around a dozen A4 and the ink low on the photo magenta is flashing, red/green no movement, very little on the black and the others showing half. I am surprised at having any flashing warning lights yet, I would have expected at least 50 A4 size prints even then that would work out at £1 per print just for ink. A Ciss system is a definite consideration. I have bought one for my 560 Pixma to test, using FotoRite ink, I find the paper makes more difference than the ink. Seeing how much ink is being used by the 9000, I will continue to use the 560Pixma for A4 or smaller, I don't see any difference at that size. Now down to £283 on Amazon great value !
