With the rapidly increasing numbers of "true HD" TVs now out there, which one do you choose for your main living room set up? Well, here's a great contender for your money. In either its 42" or 46" iteration the picture quality from this latest "mid range" Panasonic plasma TV is absolutely superb and still maintains a visible lead over the best top end LCD TVs for sheer depth of colour and "realism" - check it out in store with a fast moving Blu-ray movie if you need convincing. And, if you've got a satellite dish, the built in Freesat delivers BBC HD and ITV1 HD in all their stunning glory... even standard definition programmes look better than you've seen them before.

Downsides? None really, although you really do need a full home cinema system and a blu-ray player to go with it and, to make life easier and to avoid multiple hand controllers, you'll need to stick with Panasonic's offerings here - which could be a problem if you already already own other manufacturers' products. Also, to get more HD content than just BBC HD and the, currently, extremely limited broadcasts on ITV1 HD you need a SKY HD box, not just Freesat - but that's a generic problem with HD broadcasting in the UK.

However, combine this TV with Panasonic's equally superb SC-BT100 Blu-ray disc Home Cinema system (in its full 5.1, five speaker configuration) and you'll be knocked out by what you get... incredible, cinema quality pictures & sound at a price that, even a year ago, was unthinkably cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, 20 Feb 2010
This review is from: Panasonic TX-P46G10B 46-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Plasma TV with Freesat - Installation Recommended (Electronics)
OK first let me tell you what I required from my TV before I bought it.

I have an Xbox-360 I use for Gaming and as an extender for windows media center
Also I wanted a TV that would have free to Air satelite built in .
Also I have a Upscaling DVD player I wanted to conntect to it .
After many months of reviewing different TV's I decided to go for G10 range of TV's
Initially I was going to buy the 42G10 but the 46 inch was on sale for 750 this christmas.

Firstly the screen is excellent and stays quite cool which for a plasma is very good indeed
the standard Def TV displays much better than any LCD I have seen
So the Picture on the Xbox-360 for Gaming is Great .
With windows media center It works very well
I also watch MKV's from media center and the quality just shows how good the TV really is .
the Free sat was very easy to setup and the BBC HD and ITV HD are especially good with the football picture quality just as good as I could have hoped for. with regard to the picture settings . for me the normal setting looks great. Finally the little cloth that comes with it for cleaning the screen works a treat

there are only two things that I have issue with
1. the sound quality from the TV alone is not good enough for me , But I have a 5.1 surround sound system so that is not a problem for me ( lets be honest who buys a 46 inch tv without having their own surround sound system )
2. the upscaling from the DVD player does not produce the type of quality picture I was hoping for, But this is a plasma and that has always been the trade off . So I will have to invest in a BluRay player . AS tyhe MKV's I have look a lot better than the DVD quality.

UPDATE : Is it just me or is the picture quiality improving over time ??

All in All you will be very happy with this TV

This TV is excellent in all respects, even the built in sound system is very good. Having bought it with two other Panasonic products I am disappointed not to have been able to use only one of the controllers as advertised. We have it wall mounted, very impressive.

I bought this T.V. 2 years ago now and thought it was time to give the verdict. This telly is amazing, tremendous jaw-aching clarity when watching a blu-ray on my PS3. Gaming is good too. On BBC HD channels the quality is sublime and crystal clear and the ITV HD is almost as good. I shopped around a hell of a lot before buying this TV and am so glad I picked the tx-p46g10b. Highly recommended.
