5.0 out of 5 stars HOT POOP !, 31 Jan 2006

I'll be honest, live albums are always a bit hit and miss and I took a chance on this, not expecting anything more significantly exciting than that which I'd heard already, right ? Well, since I bought this a month or two back it's had quite a bit of a caning. The best live performances on CD give you that something extra, an added dimension to the music that you already know and if it's a performance that's been recorded very well for it's time and catches the band on top form all the better. This is all here - that fabulous ' relaxed / tight at the same time ' thing that is so much part of the appeal of the Allman Brothers Band is very much in evidence throughout.
Sure , you need Fillmore East but you need this one too. Cooking on Gas, People ... Check it out !

5.0 out of 5 stars Right up there with Fillmore East !!!, 28 Aug 2005

I have listened to this album now around 8 - 10 times, and I believe it is absolutely terrific! These two performances, one at the start and one at the end of the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival, are equal in skill and excitement to the Fillmore East concerts. Most of the old favourites are here, including some rarely heard live. There are some very minor audio flaws in a couple of songs in the live recordings, but the rest of the recordings are of a very high calibre.
If you love the Allman Brothers, DON"T WAIT, JUST BUY! and enjoy forever!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album... mediocre production, 21 Aug 2009
This is a great live set from the ABB with all their classics and even has some songs with the great Johnny Winter guesting (in his prime). The original twin lead guitar icons, Duane and Dicky, are in tip top form.

My one criticism of this album is the sound quality. Everything is clearly audible but it just doesn't have the same production quality as the Fillmore album.

Sound critcism aside this is a definite must own for any serious ABB fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT RECORDING OF A GREAT PERFORMANCE., 31 Dec 2003

This is far superior to 'live at the fillmore' for the simple reason that that albums indulgencies are kept to a minimum on this and any album that fades out on a drum solo is to be congratulated. Recorded at the Atlanta Festival which the Allmans opened and closed, the production is excellant and on the first disc the band come out with all guns blazing. From 'trouble no more' with Duanes brilliant slide playing to a short and sweet 'statesboro blues' and 'every hungry woman' and the definitive 'whipping post' which is just stunning without the meandering that spoilt later versions, the band are on top form and Duane's guitar playing is exceptional putting Dickie Betts tentative lead (at least for the first half of the set)in the shade and its great to hear Gregs hammond work up in the mix, but what really holds it together is Butch Trucks and Jaimoes drumming which pushes the band onto even greater heights of virtuosity. If i have any criticism its that the second c.d is pretty pointless being almost note for note the same as the first. Still, a minor quibble and well worth buying.
