More of the same,

Overlord 2 is pretty much the same as the original game. You start off as a small boy with glowing eyes...and from there you run around town causing mayhem. At the end of the tutorial level you start off with your Brown minnions. Browns are pretty much your base level minnions - send them out and they bash stuff up, they gather knives, pots and pans and make themselves more dangerous the more things they pick up. Next you get the reds, who are support minnions throwing fireballs, the greens sneaky minnions with poison and finally blues who are the only oes who don't drown and can resurrect the recently dead. Level design is very similar to the previous version. As you progress through the game new gates open and new people arrive. There are a few developments within the game. Minnions can now mount up - so you can get your browns to mount wolves who can then do cavalry charges...You have a minimap so you don't get completely lost (a bit benefit over the last version for the PC) although it doesn't always show you the information that you need. You also get to travel via boat, which is okay but not as much fun as it could be. You do get to possess minnions, useful for sneaking into bases as a green, but to be honest my style of play is more suited to rush in and slaughter, rather than sneak in the back door and find items quietly. If you die whilst possessing one of your minnions you just revert back to yourself which does make the whole thing a bit pointless. Personally I haven't noticed much differece in the graphics, it is a bit prettier but noohing major and the voice acting is almost exactly the same, minnions say some more things but they do get annoying after a while. You still get to make moral choices so you could be a caring and sharing type of overlord - but where is the enjoyment in that! The game is also pretty linear. Each level/land essentially drags you across a set path and at various points you either meet and obstatcle that you need a minion type you don't have yet to clear it. You then return to your castle and see what outstanding tasks you have. It's more of the same. If you enjoyed the last one then you will enjoy this and the puzzles are a bit more complex this time. If you are coming at it afresh then it is a good solid game that will keep you going until the end, it's not too complicated and is not too difficult.

Overlord 2 - A must buy,

Well, I bought this game on the strength of the original game, and I wasnt disappointed. The premise is the same, locate your minion types and use them to accomplish tasks in a pretty sadistic and amusing fashion. The controls are extremely simple to pick up and use - and the game itself is very amusing. Theres quite a few side quests, and things to find to make the most powerful armors / upgrade your minions and it has a LOT of replay value, as either a destruction, or domination lord. Its very open ended, and plays greatly - not much loading times, and the graphics are pretty smart. If you were fans of the games like Dungeon Master, or the original Overlord then this is definately for you, its a darkly amusing game with a good story. Oh, and the soundtrack is brilliant. 5/5 I recommend to anyone

I am really loving this game. It is better than the first in everyway - graphics are much improved; the game is more fun; you can bring your favourite minions back from the dead; you can now control or destroy towns; your minions can mount wolves, spiders etc; the game is longer and the missions much less linear...the list goes on! Most of the reviews are positive...if you aren't sure, try the demo and see for yourself. I think this game will become more popular over the next few months. If you enjoyed the first game then I am sure you will LOVE this one!

A good game, but not as easy to move around as the WII version. My 11 yr old son finds it harder. Arrived quickly and in good condition

This game is boring after few hours of playing. The Overlord I was great and funny, this one is a cheap continuation of good game.

This game is really good fun (other positive reviews say it all) but it has to be said that the controls for the PC are not the easiest. Most of the time this isnt a major issue and I wouldnt necessarily let it put you off buying the game, especially at this low price BUT there is one particular part right in the middle of the game which is almost impossible to do except by pure luck or hours and hours of practice. It honestly is SO bad that I almost gave up and threw the game away at that point. I am talking about getting out of the spider temple of course and all of you who have played it know exactly what I mean (check it out on U-Tube if you havent got there). I can handle a game being difficult to master (the fight with the Spider Queen just before this is a good example of a how to make things difficult) but this is a question of needing precise control of the game characters and the game interface not being up to the job (half the time you cant even see where you are trying to put the character). For any of you who are wondering, I never did manage to get all the buttons set up in advance (I managed 3 many times) and only got thru on pure luck when I tried a desperation run with just 1 spider doing it all in one go! Ironically I suspect this is how the game designers intended for it to be done Anyway, I still recommend this game but be prepared when you finally get your spider mounts!

Having bought Overlord 1 I just had to buy this and I'm glad I did.I can't recommend this game highly enough. I really hope it sold well, the studio that made it deserve high sales. No online activation and no intrusive Windows Live. Other developers take note. Excellent gameplay, good script, some LOL moments and interesting puzzles that don't distract from the gameplay. Like the first it's a cross of Pikmen and an RTS with a healthy dose of good old fashioned violence with a large instrument. Above all it's fun to play and with three different endings there is enough incentive to play through and get them all. 10 out of 10 for this one.

If you`ve played the original Overlord, then you HAVE to play this one and if you haven`t, then do so.The gameplay is slightly different to Overlord in a good way having other, more controllable options and with Raising Hell as an available add-on, it just takes over you life for the forseeable future and even then, you can go back to it and do things in another way opening up new scenarios. The one downside to it is that it`s very addictable and when I first played it, nothing else got done in the house for a while. |
