5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up for this masterpiece, 5 Jan. 2010

This review is from: Handel: Chandos Anthems (Audio CD)
The recording contains 3 selected Chandos Anthems:
HWV 254 (no 9)
HWV 256a (no 11a)
HWV 252 (no 7)

Indeed it is a wonderful recording. If you like the well-known choral and oratorial works (e.g. Messiah) from G.F. Händel I can recommend this masterpiece of a record. The anthems are very well chosen, performed and ordered. I would dare to say that everyone having the slightest interest in listening to Händel's work wouldn't regret buing this. And furthermore give yourself a small historical treat by reading the background story for the Chandos Anthems - it is an interesting little story. TIP: On the Hyperion Records homepage you can listen to extracts.

Still somewhat rare among the outpouring of Handel in recent years, the Chandos Anthems represent some of Handel's loveliest and earliest English settings and have a freshness and beauty about them well worth investigating. These beautifully clear performances make me hope that this will be the first of a series.
