Filmed in 1080i, but image quality and photography is stunning nonetheless. Truly remarkable and worth watching on Blu-Ray to fully appreciate the raw power and wonder of the natural world. I would recommend anyone to buy this.

A different perspective on nature than the traditional species/environment based documentary, this series focuses on major events and how they affect multiple species. Because of the climate changes affecting the planet, some of these are occurring less often so this is a wonderful opportunity to witness events that may soon be consigned to history.

Although not directly involved in this series, David Attenborough narrates in his inimitable fashion. Each programme ends, much as the recent Life series did, with a Diaries section showing how it was filmed and the concerns of the cameramen, including the risk of being swallowed by a whale!

Picture quality, though not generally as good as Life or Planet Earth, is generally fine and often excellent but varies occasionally, particularly in some of the underwater scenes filmed in rivers. Remember this is real-world nature, not a Hollywood fishtank. As for the sound, yes it's stereo but so what? You can be fascinated by visuals and narration without needing a manufactured surround soundtrack. If the sight of 5000 dolphins gathering doesn't move you, you're either already dead or a Japanese fisherman.

There is nothing negative to say about any of David Attenborough's documentaries, they are all great, breathtaking pictures, brilliant learning. Very good HD quality, I def recommend it to everybody.

I've found some of the stories narrated quite incredible, others I already knew them. I've bought it thinking that many of the phenomena illustrated will soon disappear. Sadly.
