It is such a shame that this fine sitcom had to end when series nine was such a hoot. The writers could still make us chuckle and the cast where still delivering the lines with the necessary aplomb. To those who say that it was repetitive all I would interject & say is that as life is pretty repetitive for most people comedy must reflect that to have any credibility. Tony Hancock was right about comedy based on truth.

I love the performances of the late Terry Scott and June Whitfield - they had gelled so well by this point that you cannot believe that the BBC where mad enough to scrap a winning program. Amazon are offering this series for a great price and there are many laughs to be had from viewing it. So don't delay - buy today !

Season Nine of Terry and June is the last of nine series.
Terry Scott and June Whitfield star in this Ninth series of "Terry and June".
This is an entertaining bit of farcical comedy that has a lot to offer. Series Nine has some very fine episodes indeed with true comedy and a warm, comfortable and very experienced approach to comedy. Series Nine is not as strong as other series. The early episodes have good stories but lack many laughs. But the last few are better and the last two episodes are very good.

This Nineth series was transmitted in 1987. It was originally transmitted between July and September that year. It may start weak but it is still a very entertaining series nearly thirty years later.
The beginning of each episode has the same intro credits. However it is a different look to the intros here, after the intros that remained the same in series three-eight. (where there was the slapstick as Terry takes drinks out to the garden to join June for a nice sit in the sun). This time we get a brief edit of images from previous episodes as the backdrop to the opening credits,

This is an excellent set of seven programmes from a classic comedy and when you consider the stuff that's passed off as comedy these days you realise just how good Terry and June really were.

In episode one Terry is worried about his weight and starts exercising and wearing a waist girdle. In episode two there is an industrial spy at work and Sir Dennis want to know who it is and where is a missing blueprint. At the same time Terry`s friend and boss Malcolm is having an affair. Everything gets in a mess. Episode three has a good farcical story line when June sets up business as a caterer. Sir Dennis hires her to entertain some guests. He also hires a butler who turns up drunk. Terry has a confrontation with a man on the way to deliver some things to help June. He then has to help June by being the Butler but the guest of the evening is the man he had a confrontation with. Terry has to do his job without being recognised. In episode four Terry joins neighbourhood watch. Then Terry and June get stuck in the church tower during a thunderstorm in episode five. Terry may have won a lot of money in episode six. And the final episode seven involves a goldfish, a new cleaner, the daughter Wendy and a baby for June?

This was the last series of Terry and June, The BBC axed the series after this one, The first three episodes are not up to the standard of previous series but the whole series is generally very good with some episodes being funnier than others, but always humorous and entertaining.
At the time of its transmission the series was often mocked and scoffed at. It was criticised by some people as being too corny and old fashioned. It was traditional comedy and not "alternative". Other people loved it. I really liked it back then and have even more respect for it now. It may not be non-stop roaring with laughter comedy, (what show actually is like that?) but it does have some very funny moments. Terry and June Medford are an ordinary middle class couple who live in suburban Purley. Terry is accident prone, helpless and over ambitious. June is his long-suffering wife who has to cope with the mess that Terry gets into.
Terry works for Sir Dennis Hodge who often calls at the Medford's home just at the wrong time.
Terry is well intentioned but many misunderstandings lead to a lot of farcical situations and Terry and June always get into complications trying to get out of the situations they find themselves in.

June Whitfield is excellent and Terry Scott is also very good with his comic expressive face and timing. Both Terry Scott and June Whitfield offer us a warm and inviting performance.
This last and final ninth series is a good classic comedy that should not be forgotten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 80's Comedy, 10 July 2009
This review is from: Terry & June: Series 9 [DVD] (DVD)
They do not seem to be able to make comedy programmes the way they did in the 80's. One of the best and so true to life. You can always relate to the characters and chances are you now someone just like Terry Medford!!
