Caution required but patience will be rewarded,

I have been trying to decide whether or not to buy this TV for many weeks. Initial reviews on Amazon were very good as you can see if you are now reading this. I looked at other reviews on other sites and although very good in general I noticed a few comments which put me off a bit. The reflective glass and "dust magnet" comments did not bother me but reading about image retention and screen burn did. I think that you have to be very cautious with plasma screens, even the latest generation ones, and I have been given a couple of tips which, hopefully, will eradicate the concerns I mentioned.
The first is to have screen settings for contrast, brightness, colour and sharpness at 50 for the first 100 hours or so to allow the TV to "bed in". Obviously this will initially make the picture very dull but any temptation to change the settings must be avoided. I have had my TV for a week now and the difference already without changing the settings is incredible. Even with the screen naturally becoming brighter and more vibrant there has been no evidence of image retention. Once the initial 100 hours of watching has been reached only minimal tweaking will be required to get my ideal picture. The second tip is designed to reduce the risk of screen burn. One review I read stated that hours of watching GMTV caused the logo to burn the screen. That was a worry as most stations now have an on screen logo eg Sky Sports. On the remote press menu - options - ISM method and choose "orbital". This apparently makes the pixels move (unseen to the human eye) thereby reducing the risk of screen burn. So what do I think of this TV. I could not be more pleased. As I stated above, the picture is settling down really nicely and the picture quality is very good indeed. Sport is incredible (but don't expect to see a great picture if you are a fan of the older programmes as shown on UKTV Gold) even without HD so I am really looking forward to this weekend when I get my Sky HD box installed. I was advised that if you like sport and want to watch it on a big screen it has to plasma - not LCD. The 600hz in this TV is also a big advantage. I have read conflicting reports about the sound. I think the sound is okay from the TV but if you have Sky HD you will benefit from a home cinema system as HD broadcasts are in 5.1. It would be better if all broadcasts were in 5.1 but this is,obviously, not the fault of the TV. If you are thinking about getting this TV go ahead and enjoy it.

Fantastic product at a fantastic price. If you want a good quality TV without breaking the bank then I'd thoroughly recommend this one. If money is no object then go spend more elsewhere.

LG 50-inch HD 1080p Plasma TV - Fantastic!,

I have been totally impressed by this product, and how easy it was to set up. When mounted on the stand, you can easily alter the position of the television to suit where you are positioned in the room.
The image quality is superb with vibrant colours and good picture detail. Watching in HD is absolutely stunnning with sharp, crisp and highly detailed images - this TV is definately intended for HD viewing, making it such a great experience. Another handy feature is the ability to connect a memory stick or external hard drive via the USB port to play your own music or show off your photos in a slide show.

Did a lot of research before buying this through amazon(best price inc delivery i found), and it stood out from the crowd. Delivery was scheduled and turned up on time. The delivery guy hepled me unbox and set on the stand (all up and running from doorbell to watching in under 10 minutes) They even took the packaging. As for the tv, i've now had it around 3 months and it is superb. Crystal clear picture even on standard non hd tv. It really excels though with Blu ray and DVD, really stunning. Sound is also pretty good, although i am just about to upgrade to 7.1, although to be fair if you are not bothered about bells and whistles, the sound will do you fine. Overall if there is a better tv out there for under 1k, i'll be astounded.

First one had dead pixels so got a replacement and again it had dead pixels so i decided to get a refund, But the way amazon dealt with the replacement and refund is first class, So i thank you for that amazon.
But dead pixels aside, if you are lucky and get a clean panel, The tv really shines on SD and blu ray looks superb, Great blacks, Very clear picture, Overall bit upset with LG because i think they should not be allowed to ship the panels with faulty pixels, But very pleased with amazon they could not have dealt with it any better, So i remain a loyal customer, Thanks amazon

I purchased this T.V. to replace my 42" plasma. I was a little concerned about the size at first. However, as it has built in speakers the unit was virtually the same size, it is also considerably lighter.
I currently do not receive H.D. broadcasts but the improvement in picture quality was astounding. Overall, a fantastic T.V. for a fantastic price.

I bought this TV from Amazon back in January and thought for a full 1080P 50" Plasma it was well specced and a bit of a bargain. Having had the TV for a month or so and having now had to return it, I thought I'd give potential buyers a simple unbiased review.
On the plus side: Cheap! Richer Sounds sell it for £599 and you can extend the warranty to 5 years for an extra £60 Lots of picture tweaking options Pretty good sound - certainly better than comparatively priced Samsungs On the minus side: Suffers image retention - it does fade, but its a bit alarming when you see it Odd colour balance that after hours and hours of tweaking I could never get to look 'natural' - in particular skin tones Black levels not the best Poor build quality of cabinet - rather flimsy build quality Undetected damage to underside of unit which cause speaker 'buzz' LG's have a poor reputation for reliability - there are many stories of them failing just outside of the warranty period I have decided to send the unit back and get a Panasonic TXP50S10B which is a similar price and frankly a WAY better set. You might also look at the Panasonic G20 - yes it's a bit more but its a way better set and will give you more viewing pleasure in the long run. If you are thinking of buying the LG, I strongly suggest you audition it first in somewhere like Currys. I find they often leave out the remotes for their TV's so you can edit the picture settings (they are usually stuck on 'Vivid' - yuk!) and see if it's to your taste. I have found Amazon's customer service to be extremely poor - I would certainly never buy another large item from Amazon again as they use dreadful couriers - (Home Delivery Network) who took 3 collection dates to actually turn up and take it away to collect despite repeated (broken) promises each time and wasting my precious days off. No idea why a company like Amazon use these cowboys.

Amazon you need to change your delivery company,
This review is from: LG 50PS3000 50-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Plasma TV with Freeview - Black / Titan Silver Trim (Electronics)
Three times this TV has arrived for me broken (The plastic over the speaker grills at the bottom of the TV were completely smashed), you could tell that the box had taken a lot of damage. Then one of the colleagues at the delivery company sounded extremely rude on the phone - she was laughing with a colleague whilst talking to me and was acting extremely sarcastic. Out of the 3 I have received, I only got to try one of them properly, the quality was great but my one had 8-9 stuck/dead pixels which is ridiculous. I don't know what is going on? I've never had such bad experience in my life. This is a nightmare, it has wasted so much of mine and my families time, the inflexibility for delivery times meant that we had to alter our schedules/take time off work to receive a faulty TV which then needed to be collected, its a lot of hassle because it is very heavy to carry, i wouldn't mind doing this once but 3 times now. Its obvious that it is getting thrown about during delivery and its not fair because we take so much care in unpacking it and packing it. Amazon its time to end your contract with this delivery company as they obviously don't care enough.

Great TV just watch out for screen burn,

TV is great, Fantastic picture, great sound. And nice a big! Just a couple fo gripes.
1- The first one that arrived, the whole screen was shattered, it had clearly been dropped in transit. Nothing to do with Amazon who promptly arranged a replacement which arrived a week later, the damaged one was collected when the new one was dropped off. 2 - SCREEN BURN - this is a bit of a problem. If you play video games, be aware that menus and other things that stay static on screen like ammo count ect will burn into the screen, very quickly. I have noticed that even after 5-10 mins of play the image is there quite visibly if you flick channels. This is the same for the likes of sky sports ect. eg, watching the rugby on BBC HD, the BBC logo is in the corner and after watching for 20 mins it took about 5 mins to "wash" this away using the tv's screen washing tools. This is just, so i am informed, part and parcel of having a large plasma TV. I understand that for the first 100-200 hrs of viewing contrasts should be kept low and you have to be constantly aware of the screen burn. Annoying, as it is constantly in the back of your mind when watching TV or playing a game. If it wasn't for this it would be 5 stars. Just be aware that for the money this TV is worth grabbing but if i had a re-do i would have saved a bit longer and gone for a TV with less of a "known issue" with screen burn. |
