5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent symphonic progressive rock from Ukraine, 31 May 2009
This review is from: The Invisible Line (Audio CD)
Sunchild is the project of Ukrainian Antony Kalugin. He has formed a large band of musicians around him to play some gorgeous symphonic progressive rock. It is not stunningly original, being heavily derivative of bands like Pink Floyd and Marillion and sounding similar to a contemporary band like Pendragon, but it is brilliantly composed and performed.

The melodies are sublime, extremely beautiful. Also, one of the most impressive things about the album are Kalugin's arrangements for the band, in particular the addition of trumpet adds wonderful musical colour to some of the music.

Completely written and sung in English; the accent is sometimes slighly off-putting but this is more than compensated by the stunning music.

Recommended to all fans of the classic 70s progressive rock bands as well as to fans of mnodern bands like Pendragon.

Sunchild's first child is just the great piece of progressive music with couple different styles smoothly inputed into it. I love especialy the Davies's trumpet and very Parry's tenor sax. Great job mr Kalugin!!!

This isn't an album that you tend to listen to from start to finish, but there's 2 or 3 highlights (such as the title track) which get quite addictive.

It's very much a 'throw it all in' prog rock type affair, with the result that some works brilliantly but alot doesn't.

Worth getting if only for the Ukranian twang on lyrics such as 'water into wine', I'm sure you'll not have heard anything quite like it....
