Not bad but dissapointing
on 11 May 2009
As a massive Maccabees fan up to this point, I have to say i was a touch underwhelmed but this album. There are some very good songs on it, particularly Love You Better. There is however an overall lack of diversity. There's a very clear thread running through all the songs, but each one doesn't quite stand on it's own.
If you think of what makes colour it in such a brilliant album, it has to be a lot to do with the lyrical content of the songs. There were some beautifully constructed lines. You see glimpses of that with wall of arms, but not nearly enough. There's far too much repetition of a single line.
I definately enjoyed listening to the album, and there are some good songs on it. But i wouldn't just stick it on from track one and sit back like I would with colour it in. I could have waited another 6 months for them to write some totally different stuff to create a truly original album.
