This book along with the "Art Of Hand Sewing Leather", by the same author, will provide a good starting point for aspiring leatherworkers or those interested in finding out more about this fascinating craft.
Written by an American, the only minor negative point is that quite a lot of what is written and covered in this title varies from common English/saddlery practice - so use it with this information in mind.

A excellent & well illustrate guide to leather tools, sharpening/maintaining, using and modifying the standard leather tools, including the icon head knife/round knife. Before you get this though, you should first get Al's "The Art of Hand-sewing Leather" booklet.
Tip: this is a large, thick booklet rather than a book - so do not pay £30 for it! It is still in print. Buy it at a more reasonable price from LePrevo or directly from Amazon.com in the USA (which is what I did - along with the "The Art of Hand-sewing Leather" - both including shipping to the UK for much less than £30).
