This is Toumani Diabate at his best. Personally, I prefer this CD to his more recent New Ancient Strings (with Ballake Sissoko) - the style is more traditional kora (if kora without song can be traditional, of course!), the virtuosity and pure melodic rythm more intense, I feel, than in the more recent CD. Either way, Kora music is pure magic, as is this CD.

I have no flare for writing interesting or informative music reviews. So I'll just say, if you think this music isn't truly wonderful, you are probably dead.

It's great to ear different things sometimes, just to take your ear off of the ususal stuff. Diabate is a great musician.
