5.0 out of 5 stars A unique insight, 9 Feb 2009
This review is from: Margaret Mellis a life in colour (DVD)
This is a unique insight into the life and work of an extraordinary artist and a remarkable women. Margaret Mellis has been involved in several schools of British Art and her influence continues to be felt today. As the story unfolds - all told in her own words, much of it from a recorded interview, the remainder read by Susannah York - you get a real taste of the character (and she certainly had lots of it!) behind the work. From the 15 year old student at Edinburgh College of Art to her membership of the 'St Ives group' in which she played a central role, and her days on the Suffolk coast, where she still lives, it's all here. A hugely entertaining film, visually sumptuous and beautifully blending music, texture, shape and colour, that will interest anyone with any appreciation of visual art and its history. Heartily recommended.

Beautiful. engaging, inspiring, wonderful, fascinating, and so very easy on the eye, this video is never boring. What a great artist Mellis was and yet she is only just being discovered properly. I love this dvd and watch it often.

5.0 out of 5 stars quote from Southwold organ, 7 Feb 2009
This review is from: Margaret Mellis a life in colour (DVD)
"It really is like a conversation with a friend, with all the informal familiarity that suggests, and it draws the viewer into Mellis' world, whether this is a first acquaintance or whether they are a student of her work. In summary, this is an engaging and illuminating glimpse into one woman's artistic inspiration. The blend of words, images and music create an enduring impression of Mellis as an artist and as a remarkable woman."
