4.0 out of 5 stars More Than Mellow, 17 Jan 2010

Lisa Shaw's 2005 debut was a sultry affair. Mind-meltingly mellow
R&B of the highest order; her sultry voice confident and secure.

New album 'Free' delivers more of the same but thanks to producers
Dave Warrin, Tim K and Manuel Migs Ms Shaw shows an increased
propensity to party. The music is not afraid to let its hair down and dance.

The funky 'Find The Way' is a good case in point. The seductive, jazzy,
latin-house rhythms and tinkling late-night piano are not easy to sit still to.
Ms Shaw's mellifluously warm tones are delightful.

Title track 'Free' is another winner. The four-square beat and pulsing synth
provide a simple but solid base for another slick vocal performance.

'I'm OK' pours a little moonlight into the mix. A melancholy song about loss,
regret and survival . Our heroine manages the mood with cool, calm aplomb.

'Feel' tugs us gently back onto the dance floor. I say "gently" because none
of these grooves are likely to lead to scenes of wild or wanton abandon.
The arrangement is grown-up and well-behaved in the best possible way.

'Can You See Him', too, with its rolling trancey synth ostinato is another
invitation to indulge in fluid movements of a tastefully tantalizing kind.

'Inside My Love' marries Ms Shaw's cool, calm tones with deeper,
darker, echoing subterranean beats to highly atmospheric effect.

Final track 'Sky High' is a seductively slick piece of warm-hearted soul.
Ms Shaw nails the beguiling melody effortlessly.

High-end easy-listening of the highest pedigree and nothing wrong with that!

Recommended.

Lisa Shaw's second album goes uplifting compared to the first one where ballads and downbeats tracks dominated. Now with Salted Music but still having Miguel Migs around, the album offers a good mix of electronic soulful tunes. One of the highlights: 'Music in you'. A great album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shaw is so good - Music like a breath of fresh air!, 7 July 2009

This is simply a fantastic album and a progression for chill/house type music. The songs are well composed, and the mix of gentle and fresh pallet of sounds simply supports Lisa's fantastic and rich vocal - and nothing in the mix ever gets in the way of this talent - there are for instance, no annoying or 'tired' sounds employed.
Lisa's vocal is the best I've heard - it is well judged, rich, melodic, deep and soulful and never 'over the top'.
In all, the album presents a refreshing progression for chill/house music in the format of fantastic songs with superb vocals. Thank god that there are people out there with this talent of good judgment in writing, composing and singing what is refreshing music - that represents a 'direct route' out of the musical rut of most other popular music.
This music has class!
