5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best
I Spent ages installing downloads of the various parental control software that is available, including NetNanny, Sentry, Webroot and the various free offerings including K9. This review is from: SafeEyes Parental Control Suite (Mac/PC CD) (CD-ROM)
I Spent ages installing downloads of the various parental control software that is available, including NetNanny, Sentry, Webroot and the various free offerings including K9. This would appear to be the most configurable, easy to setup, robust and good accesible reporting, including logs of instant messages. My son has autism and is sometimes too trusting and takes things at face value - therefore this type of software is essential. This is probably the most expensive of the software that I considered, but would seem to be worth it. It is also able to block certain criteria from being given out such as address, phone numbers etc. Does the job well.

Feature wise this seems good and reasonably priced. The problem was that once installed the PC started constantly crashing, hanging and running exceedingly slow, to the point I could hardly get onto the PC to try and fix the problem. Tried downloading an update from their website but in vain. In the end I had to get the uninstall code from their website and start up in safe mode to uninstall it, at which point normal service was resumed on the PC, so it was definitely the software.

So nice idea, and perhaps it was just the particular PC it was installed on was a problem (mind you nothing too unusual, Pentium 4 2.8, 512k RAM, Windows XP, Nvidia graphic card).

So personally I couldn't recommend it.

STOP STOP STOP.If like me you are thinking of buying this product to protect your teenage family, then stop right now.
Brought this based on the other two reviews and as they say it is easy to set up and customise.
That is where it ends. this product is only any good to protect a five year old. After you install it sits there in big letters all over the computer telling everybody that it is there. Less then one month after insatlling it brought my laptop to a grinding halt and error messages kept coming up, to the point where I couldn't access the internet. I had to use another computer to get into the account and get shot of it even then it still leaves traces behind.
If like me you think you're getting hidden software to keep an eye on what your teenagers are upto forget it you're not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every household must have it installed!, 3 Sep 2009

This review is from: SafeEyes Parental Control Suite (Mac/PC CD) (CD-ROM)
The product description details the dangers that lurk on the internet, from porn to chat rooms etc.

Safeeyes has been on my computer for about a year and it is excellent. It will block any website that it thinks contains sexual images, porn, lingerie etc. HOwever, if it is blocking an acceptable website then it is easy enough to put that website on the 'safe' list.

It is also possible to block specific websites, block specific online programs, file-sharing websites like bearshare, which are used to download songs and videos illegally.

If you are worried about falling into temptation with porn, worried about how much time your children are spending on the internet, who they are chatting to, what they are downloading etc, then this is the best program. It allows you to set up multiple user-accounts on the one computer - so you have one lot of settings for your children, one lot for yourself, one lot for your husband. It provides flexibility with security.

You can have usage reports sent to you on a regular basis so it keeps you up-to-date with how the computer is being used on teh internet so you can address any issues quickly and discreetly.

You can also set up time-limits for ussage so people aren't using it late at night etc.

I would very strongly recommend every home to have this software, whether you have children or not. And if your children have their own computers in their own rooms then please do them and yourselves a favour and install this. Please. Obviously if you are installing this to protect your children, please talk to them and explain why you are doing it rather than just suddenly putting a block on everything! :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says, but doesn't mention what it doesn't do, 21 Jan 2012
This review is from: SafeEyes Parental Control Suite (Mac/PC CD) (CD-ROM)
The thing that it doesn't do is integrate with the Windows login system. So even if you have restricted children's access to the computer by having a separate user account for each member of the family (with the children's accounts set to be not computer administrators, of course) then an adult still has to enter a SafeEyes username and password each time a child wants to use the computer. Worse still, a SafeEyes username has to be unique among all SafeEyes users worldwide, so being able to get an easy to remember name (e.g. your child's name) is most unlikely.

This completely defeats the point of having separate user accounts. Find and install another product, or if you have Windows 7 then stick to its built-in parental controls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid!!!, 4 Sep 2010

Installed the software to find that the account login for different users didn't work and to make matters worse some white listed websites didn't display properly. Practically useless and the authors of the software have a cheek putting this out as finished software.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for every family, 5 Jun 2010

This review is from: SafeEyes Parental Control Suite (Mac/PC CD) (CD-ROM)
Firstly let me explain that I am a computer professional with over 17 years experience in IT.

Reading the other negative reviews I would say that the individuals simply did not know how to work their machines and it is too easy to blame software if you don't know what you are doing.

We have a 9 year old and 3 computers and using this I have been able to restrict her internet usage. You can turn the software off for your own accounts.

IT DOES WORK but does need some configuration. I would recommend having a user account on the computer for each person in the house which are password protected as it works better.

She also has an IPod touch which we have downloaded the safe eyes app for and it works alongside my account which is great.

For this price it is well worth the money!!!
