At first glance this appeared to be a decent torch; the LED gives off a crisp white light and has a decent range. The spot to flood focus however is very poor even on flood the beam is still a very narrow spot beam which makes it difficult seeing things walking the dog. When shaken the batteries rattle and when left not in use for a few weeks it didnt turn on until I disassembled the entire thing and put it back together. This has happened 3 times now which is hopeless if you need it for an emergency. I then bought an Led Lenser 8407 P7 Torch - Black and the difference is ridiculous. Although the lenser is more expensive dont waste your money buying this duracell torch, go for the lenser. It is MUCH brighter it looks like a car headlight on high power mode and on battery saving low power mode it is still brighter than the duracell, and also has a better one-handed focus system and an extremely wide flood mode with a much longer battery life. In every single way it is a better torch so avoid this duracell torch although it is ok there are much better options for a similar price.

Bought this torch to keep around the house, in the car and in my pocket when i am working, overall it is a good solid well made torch and is capable of withstanding impact.
The battery life is good and the overall build quality is very good.

The biggest problem is the focusing system is useless unless you compare the narrowest spot to widest flood beam.

If you want a general torch for whenever then this will work a treat, if you want a better torch spend 10 pounds more.

If you want a torch working off 2 AA batteries you presumably are not looking for something too big. So why did Duracell design this with all dimensions larger than they need to be? Otherwise OK.

Inferior to the sort of LED torches you can get from supermarkets. I bought a decent one from Tesco a year ago for £10 which is better than this thing in almost every respect. My cheap Tesco LED torch was described as having a 1 Watt LED, this thing is supposed to have a 3 Watt LED but is dimmer and the light poorly concentrated. Perhaps the LED on this one is simply far less efficient - which would suggest shorter battery life. Incidentally the product description is wrong - it takes two AA batteries not three.
The difference between wide and narrow beam is almost imperceptible. The variable focussing, usually a problem with LED torches, simply does not work.
The blurb states that there are "no dark spots" in the illumination provided and this is true. What it doesn't mention is that there are two sets of broken white rings which are generated by the small transparent bead which is responsible for the (totally ineffective) focussing. Overall the illumination provided is very uneven. The illustration provided on the front of the packaging is completely misleading.
The push button on the base is awkwardly recessed and really too small for convenient operation. The cheap Tesco torch is much better in this respect and, I suspect, also more waterproof having proper rubber ring seals. The `lens' on this torch is a thin disc of plastic / polycarbonate which deforms at the slightest touch.
In most torches of this kind you can remove both the base and the head from the body. In this one there appears to be no way of removing the head so if batteries get jammed for any reason you'll be able to use it as a paperweight. It's also surprisingly bulky for a 2 x AA model.

I wouldn't have thought it possible to design something as simple as a torch so badly. This is the kind of product which is so poor that it's suprising any company would want its name on it.

I am, however, very glad I got it from Amazon (originally saw it and nearly bought it from another website) since it meant the return cost nothing and the refund was quick.

Either get one from Tesco for £10 or spend £40+ on a proper high specification model.
