5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond The Astral Skies And a Trip Down Memory Lane, 3 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Beyond The Astral Skies (Audio CD)
Being a fan of the Scorpions back in the day, before they hit the big time with a more commercial sound in the early to mid eighties following the departure of guitarist Uli John Roth, I was only too eager reacquaint myself with the guitar talents of this particular six string maestro. I`ve got to admit that when I first heard it way back in 1985 I didn`t like it one bit. I give it a good few listens but I couldn`t `get it`. Too hippyish. Not rock enough. However, something strange happened. For years after, songs would pop into my head. Catchy, infectious, little ditties, that I couldn`t place! A few weeks ago, whilst browsing through CD`s on Amazon, I came across this long forgotten album - and it all made sense. I began to place those songs that had buzzed round my head for all those years. So I purchased the CD straight away. Let me tell you, I love it! This is one of the best albums I have (and I have a fair few). If you like rock music - just buy it as I cant put into words anything that would do it justice

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing concept album, 10 July 2009

I have repurchased Uli Jon Roth's "Beyond the Astral Skies" to have it on CD format (after playing it on record form (!) the other day. I was as brilliant as I remembered and may just be one of the best concept albums ever (see RUSH 2111, Queen II etc
Uli has a gift in song writing and guitar playing -something you hardly evry see combined (Ywingie Malsteen for example!!) A brilliant guitarist and the songs blend into each other perfectly. Very hippy ish I know but this is well worth listening to as the songs will be in your head (in a good way) for days -I especially loved the operatic parts but if you are into your guitar music then this is a must. Beware tho- he never repreduced this again unfortunately (bought two others which were poor cousins!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Uli Jon at his finest, 28 Nov. 2005
This review is from: Beyond The Astral Skies (Audio CD)
After the slightly un polished firewind comes a fully rounded masterpiece of a guitarist at his best.
Soaring uitar solos combined with quiter pieces prove that Uli Jon is rounded.
The title track "The night the master comes" is worth the expense alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best guitar solo--ever?, 21 July 2011
This review is from: Beyond The Astral Skies (Audio CD)
Lots of mega-guitar playing on this great album, including ,to my mind a contender to the "Guitarist Magazine's" recent competition where they asked readers to vote for their favourite solo. When I read about this I thought that Uli's effort in the track "I'll be there" was bound to be the winner but unfortunately the readership's choices were far too narrow and mainstream---their loss!
