5.0 out of 5 stars The Great Canon A480
A480 is easy to use. Built-in face detection technology allows the camera to spot a face in the picture and alter focus and exposure settings with great results. I like the playback button, pressing this while the camera is off will switch it on and go straight into playback mode, where you can view your photos. Great camera and simple to use. 3.0 out of 5 stars cheap but very cheerful
Bought this a replacement for my previous Canon Powershot, which took several years and some kicking around to kill.

Unlike its aluminium predecessor this one looks cheap and nasty by comparison - black plastic, and AA batteries instead of rechargeable battery pack.

That's the downside dealt with. Double the pixels, much larger view screen, much...

For the price the camera is very good for normal everyday snap shots in good conditions - where the light is failing it struggles and the picture tends to be a little noisy - switch the flash on and this give very adequate light and reproduces a well illuminated picture.
The controls are straight forward and easy to use either on auto or on manual .The colour reproduction is true and the image is sharp with the right amount of contract- very little manipulation is required after the picture has been taken in the computer. it will print straight from the camera.
Im happy with my powershot as it does what it says on the packet.

3.0 out of 5 stars cheap but very cheerful, 26 Aug 2009
This review is from: Canon Powershot A480 Digital Camera - Black (10MP, 3.3x Optical Zoom) 2.5 inch LCD (Electronics)

Double the pixels, much larger view screen, much more intuitive interface. Spend half an hour reading the manual (give it a try - it's worth it) and you'll see what you can get out of it by switching it to manual programming. For the money it's great even though it looks like a disposable. Oh yes, one more complaint: the old model had a viewfinder as well as a screen - very helpful, especially in bright conditions where you can't always see the screen well enough to frame your shot: one feature that would vastly improve this version.

Having said all that, this was a no-regrets purchase. I'm amazed they can do it for the money.

This really is a fantastic camera for the price. It is simplicity itself to use, produces extremely good pictures and is small enough to fit unobtrusively into a jacket or even trouser pocket. For someone who is more interested in capturing the moment rather than creating a work of art, this camera deserves serious consideration.

The only fault I find with this camera is that I have had to purchase rechargeable batteries as the ones supplied did not last very long. I much prefer the flat battery I had with my previous camera. However, apart from that, the camera itself is very easy to use and takes excellent pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little pocket camera, 24 Oct 2009

I like to carry a camera in my pocket at all times, Used to be a Canon Ixus. Went digital and bought a Fuji Finepix A345. When the screen went all streaky and opaque for the second time I was without a camera. Spotted the Canon at a really bargain price and bought it. I use Canon SLRs.
I don't like the fact that it does not have an eye level viewfinder and I find the menus are rather hard to find your way round after the other cameras that I use.
Having said that the quality seems pretty good.As many Pixels as the DSLRs. Fast start up compared with the Fuji, lots more features and PIC modes.
For a pocket camera to use at any time I like it very much. Still wish I had an eyelevel view finder, holding it at arms length is asking for camera shake.

Easy to use and takes nice photos, a little disappointed on the quality of photos when taken inside in the dark, I may just need to mess around with the settings.

A splendid annd convenient small camera! Ideal for carrying in a pocket. As with most electronic gadgetry, most of the available information comes on a CD rather than in a book, but that is par for the course.

The camera works well and was supplied with a good big memory card - not something that was mentioned in the advertising. The camera functions well on recahargeable AA batteries, and if they run out AA batteries can be bought almost anywhere in the world, so you are not chained to a special charger and battery.

This camera was bought for my wife mainly, but in reality more than replaces my previous Canon - A95. What a difference just 5 years makes in advancing technology! It does all that the earlier camera did, plus some, but for a fraction of the cost. Yes, you do not have a separate viewfinder, so have to snap with the screen, sometimes hard in bright sunlight. But that is more common now with many cameras. Very compact too; just slips in the pocket, so that snapping opportunities are more frequent as it is easily accommodated. Once loaded onto a computer, pictures can be edited but you can also establish all settings used, which helps you understand photography more. Excellent value!

As other reviews I read stated this camera does not seem to robust but rather a cheap plastic, but picture quality is OK and we use it in a lab so it will not experience knocks and bangs so will suit us fine.
