Part of the heritage of great music that has added so much to all flavours of popular music for many decades.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good in parts...
Ok, so this is not the best bluegrass album you'll find. But it's relatively cheap. The first half of the album - by "Arizona Smoke Review" is not bad at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even close to 'the best of', 19 Jan 2005

This is a poor album. There is a large amount of production, synthetic bass track and no spontinaity. Very few of the songs are the original versions. It is basically a budget CD. However, ibn praise of it, there is some excellent banjo on it. Its only saving grace however.
You'd be wiser to spend a few extra quid on recordings from the likes of Bill Monroe etc!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bluegrass is more than just banjo's, 19 Nov 2009

Good banjo playing but very repetitive, not enough variety.True Bluegrass,as defined by Bill Monroe, includes mandolin, fiddle, guitar, banjo and bass, although his early recordings didnt even have a banjo! His first recordings (1936) and those of the Blue Sky Boys(again 1936) were just mandolin and guitar and very much influenced by the Delmore Brothers who had been on his local radio station(The Grand Ol' Opry), every week since at least 1933(some say 1932). And on records since 1931! Does anyone know where the photo on this cd was taken? Is it Bill Cox, Charleston, West Virginia by any chance?

Sorry but I feel that this is a misnomer, it is not the best of bluegrass as some tracks are just mediochre, but having said that its still listenable.
