I bought this soon after having a quick listen as I personally love more vocal traditional music such as the background chants in The Lion King. The music is spread across three CDs marked "African Legends", "African Future" and "African Classics" and consists of very different musical genres to the more traditional to those that wouldn't seem too out of place in a jazz setting. The singers both male and female, bigger hits and upcoming, all seem passionate about their music with many feeling very upbeat and fun.
Couple of favourites have to be Akata Meso - D'Gary on African Future, for it's very traditional sound and Femmes Africaines on Africian Legends for a lovely feel good beat and vocals. With 33 tracks though there's a great selection so hard to pick just a few! This set a great way to try a bit of everything and perhaps find music you otherwise wouldn't have considered.

If you are looking to open up the treasure chest of African Music, why not start here? A vast continent and a vast array of music. Africa is not about stereotypes of poverty and malnutrition. Musically, I feel it is the richest and most diverse of the continents, from austere desert blues to foot-stomping Gumshoe and everything in between. Definitely worth a few of your pounds sterling, euros or whatever.
