4.0 out of 5 stars Heart-stopping hero!
I love a good historical romance and this is one of the good ones.

The story centres around Fallon, trying to make her way alone in the world after a difficult childhood. She struggles to maintain a position as maid due to the constant advances of her various employers. When escaping from one of them, she encounters a roguish Duke, Dominic, who simultaneously...

2.0 out of 5 stars 2.5 stars. Why don't you cut off your nose to spite your face...?
Fallon certainly did!

This story had a few things I don't like to read about in romance stories - though the potrayal of a 'real' rake was very good. It's very rare to read and be shown that the Hero is/was a rake. Normally it's tell not show.

The heroine - Fallon, kept doing TSTL things. If I listed them all you would be reading the entire book in...

This review is from: Sins of a Wicked Duke (Penwich School for Virtuous Girls Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
I love a good historical romance and this is one of the good ones.

The story centres around Fallon, trying to make her way alone in the world after a difficult childhood. She struggles to maintain a position as maid due to the constant advances of her various employers. When escaping from one of them, she encounters a roguish Duke, Dominic, who simultaneously rouses her passions and offends her sensibilities. Her plan to get new employment leads her to his home in disguise, and she is forced to watch his debauched behaviour at close quarters.

I havent read any of Sophie Jordan's books before but, based on this, I would read any other historical romances that she has written. The major draw of this book is Dominic. He's a fantastic character and everything you would want from the hero, brooding, arrogant, hot stuff. The story is also very well-told. I raced through it to see what would happen next. There's plenty of plot to keep you interested and the relationship between Fallon and Dominic is compelling. There was no cringeworthy dialogue, which is always a danger in this sort of book, and everything was nicely described.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and how it came to its conclusion. I would recommend it if you enjoy historical romance.

Kindle: The Kindle edition was generally well-formatted although there sometimes wasn't enough of a physical gap when the story was jumping forward in time. There are no typos or other errors that I noticed.

If I listed them all you would be reading the entire book in this review :-) Suffice to say, if you're not a fan of Ms Jordan, give this one a miss.

I don't thing any romance writer that I've read have been able to carry off the 'woman dressed as a man' routine except for Georgette Heyer - and even then the Hero knew that she was a girl. But Fallon was able to carry on this charade for more than half the book. How could they not know she was a woman? Really? Unbelievable.

So many things I didn't like. If you normally like this author maybe you will like this book.

Yes romance at its very near best only gave this 4 stars because i have in the past read better. That said its still a really good read and not one to be missed if you are looking for a your next historical romantic fix. Ok so Duke that thinks he cannot love and a young servant girl in the past badly treated who has a very low opinion of the upper classes. Fed up with the gentry always trying to take advantage of her she decides to become a servant dressed at a man. Only she ends up in the Demon Dukes household and as the old saying goes love conquers all or in this case their social incompatibility.Good story well written very entertaining.
