Garrett's dazzling technical precision and musical expression makes Paganini's fantastically difficult, concentration-challenging 24 Caprices a great pleasure to listen to!
The beautifully original and ravishingly lyrical 24 Caprices demand roller coaster scale runs, sweeping register leaps, cascading double-stop runs, wide-interval arpeggios, trilled octaves, mutating chromatic harmonies, entire composition played on the G string, Rossini opera flair and bel canto colouratura, athletic bowings (eg, flying staccato, ricochet ascending arpeggios, distant string crossings in contrasting sections, string-skipping playing notes on non-adjacent strings), dizzyingly fast plucked notes, wild race up and down the fingerboard, synchronizing high speed left hand fingerings and rapid right hand string change, and more, while sustaining dynamic string energy flowing forward projecting varying beautiful feelings through every different note.
Garrett plays it cool, eagerly exploring the violin's possibilities and emotional range to unlock mesmerizing melodies, intoxicating harmonics and exquisite tonal colouring in all registers.
P.S. This CD is an exciting introduction to Violin Virtuosity!
