This is a beautifully crafted CD from the New World Music stable, although I am not sure whether entitling it 'Bali' is not somewhat of a misnomer. It employs the sounds of nature, particularly water, along with a predominantly flute based melodic style. It is more reminiscent of the Japanese Shakuhachi flute music than the traditional gamelan style of the Far East, although this influence does start to come in about midway through the CD. I don't wish that to come across as in any way critical, for it is not meant to be, the music picks you up in the first few bars and wafts you away to a place of far greater peace and serenity. To that end it has achieved its stated aim of being 'reflections of a tranquil paradise'. It is quite different in style to the other Bali available by Jalan Jalan, which does employ the gamelan base, although both have definite Western influences and are equally impressive and deserving of a home in anybody's CD library who wants a couple of hours of R & R. Try them both - you won't be disappointed.

I used to run a t'ai chi class and out of all the music I played (and I have quite a collection), this was by far the most popular with almost everyone in my classes. I have just bought it again as my old copy became lost and I also wanted to buy one for an old friend who used to attend my classes and enquired about it. There's something about the very start of the first track that has, literally, an 'instant' calming effect and gets me in the (t'ai chi) zone. This was something my friend remembered too. A bit like a Pavlov dogs effect I think! The pace of the music suits doing the t'ai chi form very well (provided you're not a purist who thinks it's terrible to play music whilst doing t'ai chi!). And it particularly seems to suit the Long Yang form (which takes about 25 mins to complete, if you can remember all the movements that is!). Would be suited just to chilling out to, or any kind of alternative therapy such as massage and as well as being relaxing it has a sort of 'inspiring' and uplifting effect, which is lovely. The other cd I like for t'ai chi is called The River by Nigel Shaw at innerharmoniesmusic. And if you need livening up after your t'ai chi session, and you're old enough to remember jazz fun 'try let the music play' by charles earland or a more modern techno sort of track with funk at its heart, Jaguar by dj rolando on youtube! I could go on...!

Having purchased a few 'new age', relaxing CD's, this is one of the best we keep wanting to listen to. Such a soothing, tranquil CD - the melodies and natural sounds float you peacefully into a wonderfully calm place. Lovely to have on through the day, but for us and baby it's a favourite at bedtime.

I went to Australia and stayed in a gorgeous hotel in Cairns that played music similar to this in the background in their lobby. This may not be the same soundtrack but it is equally stunning and hauntingly beautiful. I absolutely love it. If I close my eyes, I'm back on my holiday! ;)

I quite enjoy it. Unfortunately it only lasts for just over 52 mins so I tend not to use it when I'm giving a reiki treatment, the reason for purchasing it in the first place.

It's just a really nice sound, not too hippy, not annoying, relaxing, great for massage, thinking I might have it on when I give birth as it may sooth me a little.
