5.0 out of 5 stars "Look at these my ruby-red ruby lips"
Upon its release in spring 1992, Dry was hailed as one of rock’s most stunning debut albums by the press, and 12 years later it still sounds as striking and relevant as ever. Music like this will never date, fade or grow old. It will always sound this vital, powerful and alive. Independently recorded in her native Yeovil on a shoestring budget of 5000, and issued...

i bought 'Stories from the cities, stories from the sea' and fell completely in love with it, i couldnt stop listening to it. Then after reading a review of 'Dry' i decided to buy it too thinking it would be just as good, if not better...the first time i listened to it i was...umm, surprised. 5.0 out of 5 stars pj rocks us all, 23 Oct 2008
This review is from: Dry (Audio CD)
Polly Jean Harvey rocks and rocks some more. We all know this. It's a universal fact. Dry is a testament to how much, how hard she does this. It's short, brief but powerful. Her voice, beautiful but crazed, is the sound of feminine protest. But these songs are not one dimensional angry anthems. These are songs of crushing desire, red hot burning truth and exquisite despair. Listen to PJ, straining, crawling through sadness in "Plants and Rags". Listen to her triumphant in "Sheela Na Gig". Listen to her roar in Dry.

In my opinion one of the greatest debut albums ever. There are no bad songs here but stand out tracks are O Stella, Dress and the incredibly catchy Sheela Na Gig.

This review is from: Dry (Audio CD)
I have a few of pjs albums now and this has to be my favourite 40 mins of grungy like music. One of the few albums i own where i can listen to all the way threw, unlike some of pjs other albums where i'm skipping threw some tracks.

i bought 'Stories from the cities, stories from the sea' and fell completely in love with it, i couldnt stop listening to it. Then after reading a review of 'Dry' i decided to buy it too thinking it would be just as good, if not better...the first time i listened to it i was...umm, surprised. It wasnt what i had expected, and i was pretty much disapointed. I listened to it some more and gradually it grew on me and i actually got quite addicted to some of the songs (Dress, sheela-na-gig) There is a really eerie sinister feel to the album, with haunting cellos and violins and i cant quite figure out wether i love or hate 'Plants and rags'...its amazingly creepy and dark. If you liked 'stories from the city' for its beutiful, catchy melodies and want another album like it, then i wouldnt recommend this one. It is definately worth listening to though...
