GORE-TASTIC! ! ! !,
By M. Western "Zombie" (Wakefield, West yorkshire, Enagland, Eurpoe, Earth, Some random 'milky way') - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Friday The 13th Part III [1982] [DVD] [1970] (DVD)
This is probably the best Friday the 13th film after THE FINAL CHAPTER and has some pretty good death scenes. This film has a decent story to it but it's still not much different from some of the others (bunch of people go to Camp Crystal Lake, they get killed one by one by god-knows-what type of sharp steel garden tool or machete then one extremely exausted, half naked, woman who is soaked in blood kills Jason.......again!). But nomatter how similar it is to the other films it's still a 'bloody' great film. The body count for this film is 12 kills wich is only 2 more than the first one but the way the people are killed is reason why you dont really care about how many people die. This is a great film and must be watched by anyone who likes slasher films!

The Best of the series,
This review is from: Friday The 13th Part III [1982] [DVD] [1970] (DVD)
If you are a horror fan like me and go for all those cheesy horror films, then this is a must. Ignore all the others because they were dreadful with exception to the first. This is the one when jason gets his mask, and not to mention the harpoon!!!!!!

This review is from: Friday The 13th Part III [1982] [DVD] [1970] (DVD)
This film was made in 1982 on a low budget and consequently the effects are not going to be great. The idea is really to make the viewer jump with as many false scares as possible; then jump even higher when it's really Jason and not the store owner/deranged biker/insane hobo. This is a pretty cool stalk and slash horror from the genre's golden age; the reason I'm only giving it four stars is because of the random scenes which neither further the plot - the recap of part 2 at the start, the aforementioned hobo with his 'eye'...to name but two - nor add anything new for the audience. It's also quite entertaining to spot where the original theatrical 3D parts occur, and marvel at the quaint nature of this once revolutionary cinematic vision.

Loved this sequel, once I started watching, I couldn't stop. The characters are origional and really likeable, there is a lot of suspence and the death scenes are pretty good, too. Also this is the movie where Jason dones his famous hockey mask. There's not much to say about the plot as it's almost identical to parts 1 and 2, although a small gang of bikers follow the teens to camp (but, of course, Jason is around so they don't last long...) I thought that the chase scene at the end between Jason and The Last Girl was suspencefull and very well done. Great movie, especially considering it is a sequel. Highly reccomended.

Friday the 13th part 3,
This review is from: Friday The 13th Part III [1982] [DVD] [1970] (DVD)
We kick things off here with a re-cap of what last happened. It doesn't show the very very end of the second one however, so a scare is still there if you see this first. Anyway, a new group of campers are with us and they bring us more nudity and sex than the previous teo films. There is an explanation as to how Jason gets intact with the hockey mask, which made him in a bunch of movies after this. Now, the first thing I particularly liked were the thugs who proved to be evil twats when they mug one of the teens in a store. Asd the first two films had shallow characters, this is fantastic stuff. Of course, the thugs get a run in with Jason. Now, once Jason has killed his victims and there is one survivor left, it gets real good. The chase is the best one so far in the Jason films. And he removes his mask for a second to show his hideously deformed face, which is good. As good as the end is, it can't match up to the first one (that ending was tremendous) but none the less, this was a much better film than 1 and 2 and is essential to Jason fans (mind you, he is human Jason who grunts and shouts in pain) No DVD extras, but the quality is better than 1 and 2 combined, and the picture is better as well, or maybe its just that the cast are all so much more attractive. Anyway, great film, great kills, classic. Buy it!

Is Paramount trying to cut the Blu-Ray format's throat?,
By Mr. Blu (Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Friday the 13th 3 [Blu-ray] [1982] (Blu-ray)
This is primarily a review of the Blu-Ray transfer and not the film as such. If you want to convince someone to go Blu, don't show them this piece of junk. Congratulations Paramount on releasing the worst Blu-Ray I have seen to date. The print is dirty, many scenes have several black flecks that linger on the screen for what seems like an eternity and Jason sadly does not come up and stab them. The film is very grainy, not just in night and indoor scenes, and the wild fluctuations in the grain will make it hard for even the ideological grain-lover to accept and defend this one. Colours are unnatural and overcooked. Sharpness, depth and plasticity are all foreign words to this would-be HD impostor. I had the impression that only the US release was in 3-D. But here there are numerous fatuous scenes (juggling, the yo-yo) where an object seems to come 'towards' you only to blur repeatedly in an odd manner; presumably a relic of the 3-D effects? In any case, there are no 3-D glasses provided. And the True HD soundtrack is often shrill, thin and tinny.Give a 27 year old film a chance, you say? Why, when Part II is older and boasts a very good picture and soundtrack? I can think of no conceivable reason to buy this film on Blu-Ray rather than DVD (or even VHS, you might think at times). The film itself is probably where the Jason fans and the general film fans who occasionally like a good horror film (e.g. me) begin to part company. I thought the plot was the thinnest yet of the original trilogy and felt like more of a franchise extension than a genuine sequel. The acting is also pretty bad. Some people slam the recent Nispel flick, but that is wall-to-wall Meryl Streeps and Al Pacinos compared to some of the acting on show here. And the witless incorporation of 3-D 'showcase' scenes sometimes beggars belief. It is not entirely unentertaining, and depending on your mood I guess it is possible to enjoy this film, just don't watch it straight after Part II (like I did) and don't buy it on BD. 2 stars for the film, 0 stars for the BD quality, averages out at 1 star.

3D?,

This review is from: Friday the 13th Part 3 [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
There is either something wrong with my eyes or the 3D effects just do not translate onto the small screen. There are moments when you think, 'hey this is working', foreground/background elements separate giving you a sense of depth. Generally though I found the 3D effects just become blurred with echos of both red and green.Warning, it could end up giving you a headache!

This review is from: Friday the 13th 3 [Blu-ray] [1982] (Blu-ray)
this movie is a worthy addition to the Friday 13th collective but the transfer to Blu Ray is appalling. It looks like it was shot again from behind the glass in the projection booth, and that glass is dusty and dirty.........

Good gore, and hockey mask.....,
By Colonel Decker "NO CODE" (LONDON) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Friday the 13th: Part 3 [DVD] (DVD)
This is the one where Jason finally dons his infamous hockey mask....Again what saves the movie are the likeable characters, the stoner dude is cool and is the hero again a woman in the name of the beautiful actress Dana Kimmell, she may just be the most beautiful of Jason survivors. There is plenty of gore here, though you do feel that the MPAA have been hard at work cutting what they can out of it. Jason still just about retains his fear factor but a word of warning on the region 2. It really is worth getting the region 1 3-D edition. This is quite simply kick ass. Well OK we are not talking Avatar here, but the 3-D version is what the F13 guys intended in the first place, whats more that DVD comes with the normal edition too. So this movie just about scrapes the 3 mark. |
