I bought this originally to record gameplay from my PS3 to post onto youtube as i work in the gaming industry. Let me just say the quality obtained from this product is amazing it records in 1080i which is more than enough (maybe too detailed) for youtube and has no noticeable loss in framerate unlike some other products on the market.

The Software is easy to install / setup and use. It does not take long to get used to it.

If you are using this with a Sony PS3 you will need to buy the PS3 component cable. Xbox 360 users will be ok as Microsoft normally include a component cable.

I edit the video on my Sony Vaio laptop which works smoothly using Sony Vegas Pro or Adobe Premier Pro.

Other users are reporting lock ups / freezing i have never experienced anything like ths myself and have recorded around 90-100 hours of PS3 and Xbox 360 Gameplay.

If you want to capture any sort of HD video to edit/upload then the Happauge HD PVR is the only product in my eyes on the market today which does the job properly.

I have connected the HDPVR to my Xbox and PS3 and recorded some game play in my laptop (VAIO vgn-z591u), it was really nice HD video and good audio quality.
One advice before recording from any system change the video settings to be ether at 1080i or 720p. Not 1080p because the HDPVR doesn't support it.

I bought this for my son for his xbox 360 as he likes to record his game plays and pop them on you tube.
Very easy to setup. Accompanying software has a nice file converter should you want to compress files for uploading etc.

Recommended, because the alternative (video capture card for pc) is not as easy to setup as you'd expect and this is ever so easy.

Although the package does come with a set of HD composite cables, just make sure your tv/monitor can support composite RGB video input, (don't mistake these for the standard 3xRCA) AND that you have a HD composite cable for your xbox or you may have to spend a couple of bob on buying a "HDMI Male to 5 RCA RGB Audio Video AV Component Cable" (£4 on amazon) and an "Xbox 360 HD RCA Component YPrPb cable" for your xbox (£5 from amazon).

Also worth bearing in mind that when using the HD-PVR with a XBOX 360 this DOES NOT record YOUR chat (although it records your party mates chat). This is because your voice through the mic does not output through your xbox. You'll have to either record your voice while playing through the pc using software such as Audicity and then overlay the file onto your video file using Windows movie maker or setup a fancy stereo mic-mixer. There are many you-tube vids explaining how to do this. Personally I opted for the mic mixer so my son doesn't have to faff with extra software.

Great buy a few friends that told me this was the best choice to get,but i only have 1 complaint if you buy this from the Hauppauge site it comes with the software disc but as i brought it from amazon it came without one.

So i had to Email Hauppauge and ask them nicely to send me out a software disc as its pretty usless without one

Other than that it looks great very compact and very very easy to set up only took me 5 mins from unpacking to all plugged in

Just an example of quality obtained from this product. Its definately the best device on the market for recording from an xbox or ps3 but it is very expensive, another product on the market that should be able to provide similar results for much cheaper is the pinnacle movie box HD (released 1st march) but i do not know of anyone using it currently.

Only negatives are that it doesn't record in 1080p or use HDMI... however it's still a brilliant piece of kit. I had issues originally with the program locking up but that was all solved when I plugged it into a USB port on the back of my PC rather than on on the front (better quality connection I assume). All very easy to set up and use, just plug it all on, boot up the software and it records without a problem in 720p which is perfect for Youtube. I use it for recording gameplay from my Xbox 360 and can't really fault it, being able to play in HD on my TV and still record to my PC in HD is brilliant. Expensive yes but you get what you pay for, just works!

I use the HD PVR to record video games. It works very well but you need a good computer to record something ok.

Yep, I have to agree with the other positive reviews on here regarding this PVR. My 13 year old son wanted this primarily for editing his Xbox gameplay, and it does exactly what it's intended to do. He had it up and running before I'd even had a chance to be boring and read the instructions! It's definately far superior to the previous low-budget model he had and, from the looks of it, will hold most of its value when resold on Ebay eventually. I got this off Amazon for the same price (new) as some models were selling for second-hand on Ebay just prior to Xmas. Should have looked around folks! A good buying experience.

Watched countless videos on You Tube and read plenty of reviews. Some good, some not so! Decided to take the plunge and glad I did. This little boy is hooked up to my Virgin Plus box and I can record anything to PC with the included software. I did purchase an extra set of component video and audio cables to connect up my TV but it is optional. You need your cable box on and the included IR blaster will change the channel automatically if you set the software to record by timer. You can also record normally through your cable box and transfer it to PC later if you like. Overall, very impressed and if you travel often as I do, its great to take some home TV with you.

I first purchased the Hauppauge HD PVR back in April 2010 to capture video games that I play. Since then I've recorded thousands of hours of video using the HD PVR and uploaded just over 100 videos onto YouTube.

Recently my HD PVR died. It simply would no longer power on, tested with a second power cable. Without thinking twice I purchased the Hauppauge HD PVR again becuase its the best capture device for consoles in terms of quality.
