Jazz for a summer's day! Or, maybe even a candlelit a winter's night.
The influence of Stan Getz, and Lester Young is plain to hear and there is maybe more than a little Zoot Sims in there. However, Jim Tomlinson is still his own man.
Guy Barker contributes imaginatively on 3 tracks and Tomlinson's wife Stacey Kent adds vocal to 3.
The mood of the album is laid back - even on the more up-tempo selections. 'What Will I Tell My Heart' is magnificent in its simple melody and is one of those you feel instantly familiar with on first listening. The version of 'Only Trust Your Heart' is very reminiscent of Getz and also reminds you what a fine composer Benny Carter was. 'Glad To Be Unhappy' is simply a wonderful standard treated wonderfully. Buy this album and I guarantee it will become a treasured possession which you will return to again and again when you have the chance to relax with a bottle of wine and enjoy a personal moment or two.
