5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! I haven't bought an album this good for months!!
This being the only album by Weezer that I have heard, I have nothing to compare it to - but I think it really is amazing. It's a feelgood album with some fantastic songs, including the single Hash Pipe which has you nodding along to your walkman looking like a complete fool! Photograph, Crab and Knock-down Drag-out would all also make brilliant singles. Weezer are a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Comeback album of the decade?................ No chance
For me Weezer are the perfect pop-punk band, they play pop-punk the way it should be played, combining the power pop melodicism of Big Star and The Cars with the fast - paced attack of punk and the quirky sense of humour shared by bands like They Might be Giants and Devo. There first album 'Weezer' was brimming with infectious melodies and spawned the massive crossover...

Weezer are a great rock-band with their own definitive character, but (I know this sounds strange...) many of their songs are much like the Beatles' - the simple, catchy tunes and lovely harmonies in Island in the Sun and Smile are very similar to songs by the Fab Four. All in all, this is a great album without a single disappointment on it - BUY IT NOW!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars lean, mean, green, 5 Mar 2005

This album came out a whole 5 years after their widely lauded sophomore album 'Pinkerton' and some fans felt cheated. It's only 30 mins long! Where are the emo lyrics? Where's the gritty production? Instead, with the Green album, River Cuomo produced a masterclass lesson in melodic fuzz-pop. Cementing his position as the greatest melody writer since Paul McCartney, The Green album gives us 11 songs, each one as infectious as the next. Personally, I think Blue and Pinkerton are the better albums- just- but this effort showed a new side to a complex and genius songwriting talent and its catchiness won a whole new set of fans.

The Green Album is a marvellous illustration that, sometimes, less is definitely more.

Whereas power-pop contemporaries of theirs such as, say, Ash have a tendency to pad out otherwise excellent albums with filler (trim three or four songs off Free All Angels, for example, and you're left with a five-star product), Weezer favour quality over content. Although it clocks in at only just over the half-hour mark, from beginning to end every song is perfectly, joyously, infectiously crafted and, come the end, you aren't left feeling cheated...just press play and go round again...

Their five year hiatus has enabled Weezer to collate a mightily impressive array of songs. You might, perhaps, think you're a cynical type, but one listen to The Green Album might just provoke you into reviewing your definition of 'value for money'...

5.0 out of 5 stars a small piece of musical genius, 8 July 2001

ok, now people reading this fall into one of three categories....
[1] you are a weezer fan and have heard their other albums [2] you are not a weezer fan and have heard nothing by this band [3] you have heard some weezer i.e. Buddy Holly or Hash Pipe
if you fall under the first categorie then no doubt you have this album, if not then get it and i guarantee that Rivers Cuomo and company will once again rock your world.
if you fall under categorie two then Weezer are a FANTASTIC band, their subtle mix of pop-punk and geek rock put them up their with the genre creating likes of nirvana, the ramones and darest i say it... tool. the lyrics are witty, well thought out and meaningful, and they are one of the most easily accessible bands you are likely to hear. if you don't believe me then try and get hold of songs like "susanne" or "buddy holly" and hear what i am on about.
those of you falling into categorie number three should definately get this album because if you have heard and likes any of their more commercially successful songs then you WILL love this album and the previous ones aswell.
Basically, this album merely confirms Weezers status as one of the greates bands of their time, not trying to be anybody but themselves and being extremely successful in doing so...

5.0 out of 5 stars At the end of the day.....its Weezer!!!, 17 May 2001

I'd not been as excited about an album as much as this one for a long time. First things first, it doesnt disapoint. Certainly after a few listens i was getting that 'weezer-good' feeling i'd missed since pinkerton. The album starts off with 4 different songs. 'Dont let go' is a nice breezy intro but it's when Hash Pipe kicks in and Rivers starts to croon, that you realise....this is it...this is what you've been waiting for! Photograph is a superb song , as is island in the sun. The second half of the album tends to race away a little but remains superb to the end. I particularly like Drag down knockout, and simple pages. One thing is true from other reviews too, the chugging guitars are much sparser this time round, maybe thats why hash pipe really grabs you, it has energy to burn. The guitar solo's are also stripped down a little. They tend to follow the melody and there's no real screaching or hammering or twidling, just clean clean solos. The album is a little short, strange when you consider rivers allegedly wrote over 200 songs over the last few years!. It'd be interesting to hear the ones that didnt make it to the album, hopefully the next one wont be as long a wait!. If you like Weezer then this album is obviously a must buy, no-one sounds like this, weezer quite simply...rock!

Weezer are back after there five year hiatus with a bang, The Green Album is a mix of River's finest song writing moments from the last five years, and after the success of their previous Ric Ocasek produced album (The Blue Album), this one is sure to rock even bigger bells. The first single from this album Hash Pipe has already proven hugely popular over the pond and is due to be released here soon. Other songs on the album include Photograph and Smile, both full of Weezer's classic sound! And as for Island In The Sun, well, you have to hear it to believe it, very fun and very beautiful. Buy this album and your life will be complete, well, your music collection will be anyway!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's green - so expect it to grow, 10 Jun 2001
This review is from: Weezer (Audio CD)
Most Weezer fans would agree that Pinkerton was an excellent album. It is certainly among my favourite albums. Not only is it instantly accessible, but it also has a deeper theme running through it (something I only discovered by reading an online interview with Rivers).
However, Green will strike you at first as a return to the days of the Blue album. The first time I heard it I was very disappointed to have spent good money on an album that was only 30 minutes long, having waited 5 years for more Weezer music.
However, further listens reveal that the excellent songwriting skills are still there to be enjoyed. The album has the lighter sound of the first album, but still evokes the wide variety of emotions that Pinkerton did.
I nearly gave it 3, but that is because of Weezer's excellent standards. This album deserves four stars when compared to the music of similar bands. Nobody does it better.
Just keep the album well watered and it will never wilt away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back From The Forgotten Land!!!!!!, 7 July 2001

Well how long do you expect to wait for a 3rd album by a band? Certainly not the 5 years since weezer released pinkerton that's for sure! But with all the problems Rivers Cuomo went through you can hardly ask for more!
This album is Weezer back to their best! Hash Pipe is absolutely fantastic and is easily the best single since Buddy Holly was released way back in 1994! Photograph (the japanese single as opposed to Hash Pipe) is also a masterpiece as is Island In The Sun (to be the next single)!
If you like Weezer then you'll love this album. Perhaps at 1st you may be gutted at the length, but soon you don't care because what is there does not dissapoint!
If you don't like Weezer then i feel sorry for you!
A must for everyone's collection!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight Power Pop, 24 Jun 2001
This review is from: Weezer (Audio CD)
Having not heard "Pinkerton" I can't really comment on Weezer's musical trajectory to date, as I'm missing a big chunk. What I can comment on is the consistant quality of this albums songs. With a similar sound to The Blue Album (think the beach boys playing with heavily distorted guitars) we have Rivers Cuomo and co. serving up a tight package that delivers throughout. People have critisised the relatively short length of this album (30 mins), citing this as one of its downfalls. In reality this briefness gives us an album that is lacking any excess musical fat, something that mired the end of The Blue Album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The triumphant return of weezer!, 21 May 2001
This review is from: Weezer (Audio CD)
This is a really great album! It is simply packed with summer anthems and proves that when it comes to melody Weezer are top of thier game. At the same time it is neither the blue album or pinkerton, they have moved on once again to commercially greener pastures than in pinkerton but keep the undeniable quality of lyric and music that stand weezer out as the best at what they do. Although the album is short it is hardly a criticism as every minute is put to good use, photograph, island in the sun and simple pages are some of thier best work to date.It is a very welcome return...good work guys.
