4.0 out of 5 stars Jimmy, you can get it if you want it
In the late 1960s Jimmy Cliff was along with Desmond Dekker the popface of the burgeoning reggae-scene. He hit the charts with the unashamedly commercial tracks 6,7,9 and 12, that still sound fresh today. He gained fame starring in the underground hitmovie The harder they come, contributing great classic tracks to its soundtrack (10,15,19). But then he tried to record...

3.0 out of 5 stars and if you just like reggae then you'll probably like this one - so ...
Regrettably as an ex DJ in a former life I couldn't help but notice that some of these tracks did not appear to be the 45 rpm versions my audiences used to rave over.

This of course is not an unusual complaint these days!!

However if you are an avid Jimmy Cliff fan then this compliation is a must buy !!

But then he tried to record soul and the results were solid but undistinguished tracks 8,16,20. This compilation does present all his other great reggae tracks such as the opening track, Sufferin' in the land and Struggling man.
An enjoyable cd for a great price and the best Jimmy Cliff around.

Saw the man himself at Glastonbury Festival 2003 and he brought the sunshine out and Jamaica to the people what a show. This CD is a fantastic collection of all his hits and you wont go wrong by listening to this on a hot summers day - you will have a smile on your face. This is about as uplifting as music can get.

What can I say - suffice for you to know that even my 3 year old twins think this man is a genius. The cover version of Cat Stevens Wild World is a personal favourite. Money very well spent.

For those of you who are new to Jimmy Cliffe, this CD is an excellent one to start your collection.
Worth buying for track 15 on its own (many rivers to cross), this CD is a must for any reggae/ska fan - but then, anyone in the know would already have it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Many Happy Memories, 19 May 2014

More happy memories of innocent summer days in my later years at senior school came rushing back, especially the end of term discos, in the backed out school hall, on the last or last but one days of term. Where did all the years since those far off years go to? Great purchase and excellent service from Amazon, as always.

Music to play with the whole family. In a time when much of music is about sex and nothingness, it is good to hear quality production, vocals and lyrics that actually mean something. My only complaint: I wish Synthetic World was on it!
