Hear it once and you crave the whole back (future) catalogue. Novacaine for the soul was the only one I knew when I purchased but the others are just as good, if not better. Am definitely saving up for electric shock blues and Daises of the galaxy, no record collect is complete without at least one Eels release.

Probably the album I have played over and over the most. One of those albums that sets a scene and draws you in to the curious little world it creates and shows you around. Have been a little bit disappointed with other Eels albums since, but always happy to come back to this one. Fantastic.

I was amazed the first time I sampled this album in a HMV listening post. Just browsing the music store, and I put the headphones on, tried each track and loved the uplifting melodic tracks before me. I just had to purchase it, and it is in amongst my great all time classic albums.

This was my introduction to Eels (not THE Eels, for the benefit of the uneducated) & I still love it as much as I did in 1999....if only his subsequent albums had been a tenth as good. Had to buy another copy as people are always walking off with it; it's that good!

This album really is a hidden gem. I decided to re-listen to it recently and was blown away by it. 15 years after it's original release and it still sounds amazing. I couldn't really pick out any highlights as every song is a masterpiece.

This is a fine CD with a good number of excellent songs. The subjects and tone may not always be optimistic, but are definitely worth listening to. The title perfectly reflects the content with beautiful and sometime freaky songs.

No, they're not paying me to advertise them. It would be nice, of course, but I digress.
About the album... got it on an impulse buy after hearing a friend sing their praises. Being a fan of classic rock and death metal, the unrepentant quirkiness of the music was a bit of a shock at first. But you can tell what's good music even if it doesn't immediately appeal to personal taste. And either way, it soon did, as I got desensitised to the fact that I was listening to what could easily be defined as pop, and liking it. Style of music regardless, there are some awesome songs on that album; personal favourites are Rags to Rags, Beautiful Freak and Not Ready Yet. Beautiful melodies and intelligent lyrics. What more could you want?

I bought this after hearing tracks from the Hellboy and Shrek films. Those are quite poppy in comparison to the rest of the album but I just love it entirely. Well worth buying.
