4.0 out of 5 stars Four stars for the CD, three for the DVD., 12 July 2011

I'm a Steinman fan, so I HAD to have this special reissue CD/DVD set. But for the vast majority of people out there, the set is not essential. The CD seems to be the original CD as far as mastering and mixing are concerned, though I'm sure some things have been tweaked. If it's significantly improved, I can't tell it. The only reason that the CD gets four stars is that it's not an improvement over the original, which I would give five stars, and includes no bonus material.

As far as the DVD is concerned, it's a bit of a disappointment. The product description says it has three music videos, which, if true, means they hid one. While interesting and rarely seen, the music videos are not particularly high quality of transfer. (But then, hardly any music videos from that era could be considered HD, so what do you expect?) The interview with Steinman is typical of him...meandering and only intermittently interesting. (Jim, did you have to read the entire set of lyrics for "The Want Ad"?) Still, your collection is incomplete without the DVD.

Remember that this is a Region 2 DVD in PAL format and that North American fans will not be able to just pop it in their DVD players and enjoy it on their TVs (unless you have region-free, PAL to NTSC players).

Original Sin

As the title says, these are the original (& best)tracks before Meatloaf and Celine Dion Re-recorded them as singles and album tracks. Jim Steinman wrote and you can spot his distinctive style in each track.
