This review is from: Mojave Moon [DVD] (DVD)
The highlight of this movie for me was the delightful opening and closing song, which was out of the top drawer. Sadly the film was a bit of a letdown. Made back in 1996 it seems to be trying to cash in on the rise to superstardom of Angelina Jolie. Director Joseph Bologna has attempted to make a Coenesque film full of black off the wall humour. But unlike the brothers who mostly hit the mark Jo fires blanks mostly well wide of the target. It all involves a middle aged guy who is quickly seduced by the very charming Lolita like Angelina Jolie, who quickly persuades him to drive her all the way to her home in the Mojave desert. He then meets her gorgeous mum, and hey presto romance is in the air. Some blokes just get all the luck! Then we get lots of weird antics with dead bodies and psychopathic boyfriends. It is all a bit tasteless and mainly unfunny. Danny Aiello strives manfully in the lead role, and you have to admire him for that. Angelina Jolie pouts beautifully and displays her ample charms for the world to see. And if you like that sort of thing, and I must admit I didn't raise any objections, then that is very pleasant indeed. Unfortunately that wasn't quite enough to make it a good film.
